Currently using infopop. I was wondering if this board is faster and if it uses less space. I have 470 members and 10500 post with some pictures. I am over 100 mb. That seems way to high.

Is the transition easy and safe?

I see that you have many of the same features. Is there a large hacking community, or another site with a list of available hacks?

Thanks

Welcome TimberLand,

Import script can be found in the admin control panel of vB and whole operation is really easy. Just type where UBB is and you're set.

Many hacks can be found in the Code Hacking forum or at http://www.vbulletin.org
You may want to try a search (first significiant difference) and type [RELEASE] to be searched.
Many hacks are already included in vB 2.0 Beta 1 which can be downloaded from members area.

Feature list for 1.1.5:
http://www.vbulletin.com/features/

And more for 2.0:
* Avatar
* Polls
* Birthday
* Calendar
* Buddy List
* Ignore List
* Private Messaging
* Sub-Forums
* Custom User Profile Fields
* More Powerfu User Groups And Permissions
* Replacement Variables
and much much more...

Hope this helps. ;)

Thanks,

What about speed and space? This board feels real clean and faster.

I think we can safely say it is much faster than UBB :)
In terms of space, I've never actually owned a UBB but my forum with ~4500 posts takes about 3.5Mb of database space (with a few hundred kb of php files) - I believe it is about a third of what UBB takes.

Thanks,

I know that the amout of space that my ubb board takes up is rediculous. I am very excited about this board.

Any discounts for ubb users. Just a thought. Some software companies offer that to get people to transfer from a competing program!

Is there a estimated time for 2.0 to come out of beta?

I am also interested in vBulletin 2.0 and would like to know when it is coming out of beta. I want to start a tech site and maybe vbulletin will give me a discount or vbulletin for free if I do a review on the forum software and advertise it for them...???

Vbulletin definetely uses less space.

I have 5500 members, 60,000 posts and my mySQL data all fits at just a little over 100 Megs. My mySQL dump is only 100 Megs, which is a backup of the entire database, not just posts and members. After I tarred the mydqldump with the -z option the entire database backup is now only 16 Mb! That's amazing.

I too am seriously considering moving from ubb. chat.jimrome.com drives far too much traffic for the latest version of ubb (12,000+ users, approx 2 mil page views a month), so vBulletin is certainly looking good to me.

Any chance I could get a benchmark on what this site is running on? CPU type and usage, RAM, drives, etc...

UBB is twice as expensive as VB why would they give UBB lisence holders a discount?

FYI if you are using UBB6.* I dont think the import script will work

Here's my story - I'm the poster child for UBB to Vb users! http://vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=55559&highlight=ubb#post55559

BTW, we are going to hit 300,000 posts today!
