I wonder is it's possible to eliminate the session info that's embedded in the navigator URL of most browsers, as people will copy this to links that will just be ungodly long.

For instance, the URL for this thread can be read http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=cc906b7509190224122e3cb676e43c76&threadid=9098 from the nav bar.

But the real pointer is to
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?&threadid=9098

The difference is that the top first link includes "s=cc906b7509190224122e3cb676e43c76" in the link. It's unnecessary and prone to error.

I though the sessionhash would be removed automaticly from a link when they're linked in the forum?

I didn't understand the 2 answers, but yeah!! Is it possible for this session info to disappear?

yes you change it in your profile. If you want everyone to have their session set as a cookie (i did but probably going to change back) run this following from phpmyadmin

UPDATE user SET nosessionhash=1

Oh. So any reason this is not the default? Does anybody actually like it to be in the address bar?

Yeah if it was the default, anyone who didn't accept cookies would not be able to register for your board or log in to the system.

Just curious. Does anyone here not have cookies turned on? My impression is that although some people make a big deal about cookies, the number of people who actually turn off cookies is probably about as small or smaller than the number of people surfing the web with netscape 2.0

Wayne, is that your experience too, or do you take the cookie issue more seriously than I do?

P.S. Not that I don't sympathize with the problems. Just that I think it's pretty unavoidable somehow... I don't like what doubleclick is doing @ all, but the horse is out of the barn now...
