ok running now on RC 1... Upgrade ran smoothly. I needed to redo the stylesheets for the image-paths - as this bug has been fixed now and my workaround didn't work any longer ;)

it runs without problems, I haven't reverted templates so far and haven't encountered any problems. Even the translation we made runs smoothly. Great work of the devs :)

More tomorrow ;)

It won't overwrite your customised templates, but as stated, some templates are changed. It is recommended that you use the find updated templates feature and revert those so that you will get the template bug fixes installed.

No Problems with the Upgrade of my Testforum from Gamma to RC1. Takes only 5 minutes, but i will wait for the final release to upgrade the real forum.

matius4
Sat 3rd Jan '04, 8:35am
I will be waiting for the final release but I have to say I am really impressed with this release. I don't really like the fact the "remember me" box is checked though because I know a lot of my memebers will forget to uncheck this and it won't be very good for security in my opinion. Is there any way that something on the Admin CP could be changed so that the admin could set whether this was ticked or not, because then for the people who liked it checked could also have it their way :D

Apart from that though I think this is amazing and cannot wait to use it myself :)

Well Done

Step 3) Creating Tables

Creating access Table

There seems to have been a slight problem with the database. Please try again by pressing the refresh (http://java_script_:window.location=window.location;/) button in your browser.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Techinal Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience.

where can i find a list of what files have been changed?

Dart1337
Sat 3rd Jan '04, 4:37pm
It was a fresh install. It was a problem with my host going down as I was updating then being rebooted. I hit refresh and it tried to recreate it and it was already there from the first partial install. Not a problem with vb at all. It went nice and smooth once I figured out what happened. I reuploaded my database and I'm ready to rock'n roll!

Well, I am glad I held off on upgrading to gamma.

Any ways, does vB3 have a feature where we can give a moderator access to the administrative control panel to help with modifying the style and template but not give them full administrative rights? Basically, I don't want them making themselves full administrators or anyone else for that matter.

templates have had ny changes from gamma to rc? Follow the instructions in the Release announcement to see what templates were changed. If that doesn't satisfy you then create a new thread as the is not a support thread and support questions will most likely be ignored or overlooked.

Going by what you posted though, yes they have changed or they wouldn't say RELEASE CANDITATE 1 as their version.

Ditto. very smooth and quick upgrade. A little disapointed the archive feature doesn't work on my server (presume it's my server) and it's a shame that there is no workaround for sites affected. Don't understand the techy stuff enough to know even if a workabround is somehow possible or if those sites could have a similar thing coded for them in for future releases would be good if they could but never mind such is life, otherwise this is all looking good. Thnx.

Download Ad-aware from www.lavasoft.de (http://www.lavasoft.de) or google for Spybot - both of which remove spyware from your machine, in the same way virus scanners work. Ad-aware is free to run in scan only mode - if you byu the full version it will actively protect spyware being installed in the first place.

vBulletin is described as a "forums package" on the vBulletin home page (http://www.vbulletin.com/), and this area is called the "vBulletin Community Forum (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/index.php?)." However, throughout the FAQ (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/faq.php?) and User CP (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions), there are many references to "board" and "bulletin board." This conflicting terminology may be confusing to some users (especially newbies).

Aren't "forums" and "bulletin boards" basically the same thing? I think it would be less confusing if the terminology was consistent throughout vBulletin. (I'm assuming the usage of "bulletin board" in the FAQ and User CP is a legacy from an earlier incarnation of vBulletin.)

A few examples from the User CP ("edit options" section):
- Invisible mode allows you to browse the forums ...
- ... administrators of this bulletin board may want to send you email ...
- This bulletin board features a private messaging system (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/private.php?) ...
- If you are browsing the board when you receive a new private message ...
- All timestamps displayed on the board ...

A few examples from the FAQ:
- Does this board use cookies? (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_user_maintain#faq_vb_use_cookies)
- Can I search the board? (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_board_search)
- Can I send email to other members of this board? (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_vb_email_member)

I'm looking forward to the release of 3.0 Gold so I can finally dump the old Matt's Bulletin Board script from my website and replace it with the vBulletin forums package. I've been patiently waiting and the money's burning a whole in my pocket. :D

1. In both files remove <?#shebang#?> or replace it with your shebang, if necessary.
2. In login.php replace all occurrences of [#]license[#] with your license number. You can either find it in one of your other files or in the members area under License # / URL

If I am on 2.3.2 should I goto 2.3.3 before going to 3.0? Will it matter, is the 2.3.3 -> 3.0 upgrade more tested?

its not important if youre on 2.3.2 or 2.3.3
i was on 2.3.2 and it worked.

but be nice to yourself and wait for rc2, cause upgrading is a pain in the ass...

I went from 2.3.0 > RC1 and had no problems whatsoever. In fact, I found it relatively quick, and very easy (and I'm more or less tech-incompetant). Just make sure you check your db for conflicts first.

RC2 is what this board is showing top right at present. I think that's what he meant.

Hm, think I'll better wait untill the RC2 is released.
Wouldn't be so funny to install every hack again.
Should be released today, so, just gotta wait a couple more h's.

Just curious, is there a problem with vBulletin 3.0 and the newest version of Zend? It seems that before Zend was installed on our new server vBulletin 3.0 was working fine, but now that Zend is installed it spits out errors and neither the community or the admin cp are accessable.

Errors like:

Parse error: parse error in /home/*****/public_html/commune/admincp/index.php on line 107

and

Parse error: parse error in /home/*****/public_html/commune/index.php on line 130

Problems with reading?

Take a look on the top of this board and you will see that here RC2 is already running. I think (hope) if Jelsoft has it installed here they will also release it to the member area within short. :)

Curious:

When upgrading from vbulletin 2.0x is any redundent data from the old database tables saved or is everything converted and any excesses removed?

Kier
Mon 5th Jan '04, 11:11am
What kind of redundant data?

No one told you to customize your templates before the final version is out, so please stop complaining.

I did customize some templates too. But what's the problem? Get yourself a nice TXT-file and write down every customization and where it should be. The re-customization is then done in about 15 minutes. It is NOT the problem of Jelsoft. It's your own problem. BTW: If you use replacements and custom image-folders, the customization is much more easier to do.

Ohhh stop bitching around. The devs will post RC 2 in the member area as soon as they are done putting the zip-file together. This board was on RC 1 about four hours prior to getting RC 1 in the member area. That's surely just because they need to test the upgrade-scripts on the live-board and maybe need to adapt it again. And maybe they wanted to eat and drink something before putting it online. It soon will be online - that's for sure, Kier posted that.

Well I added a hack to display the last post on forumhome, this involved adding a new table column, its now part of vb3 and will never be used again.

Sh... happens ;) There are a lot of hacks and template-enhancements out there, which have become obsolete with the new version. I am only happy about that, that makes less hacks to install :D

Yeah, no doubt about being happy :)
But I was wondering if they kinda stuff was removed when we updated.

Mon 5th Jan '04, 12:07pm
Nope, wouldn't say so. We had a quizz installed - which will hopefully ported - and on a test-conversion the tables of the quizz where still there.

What you can do: Use the vb3_ addition to the names of the tables. And after the upgrade remove all tables, which are not named with it. And there you are with a cleaner install. But backup the database first before doing so :)

i knew the mods were at my own risk, and the comments i have had from my members so far have all been positive. The learning curve has not been steep for them and they love the ability to change styles easily.

I am currently being googlebombed by the spiders, so the traffic is up at the moment, but the new 'who is online' is really great. I love the extra info it gives.

well done devs... i cant wait for final....

(which I am doing now -- eek!) I had a hack that added some tables into the DB and when I converted on my test board, they were kept. So, when I go live, I will have to remove the tables from the DB if I don't want them included.
