i cant post in support..but i really need to know answer to this

i have a problem administering forum using v2.3.2

all the users subscribe to the thread they posted/replied..
i need to stop that...and to make default for all future posts and users that registers not to do this..

i googled around and found this thread

but his query

UPDATE user SET options = options - 16384 WHERE options & 16384

doesnt make sense to me.... and didnt seem to do anything when i ran it..

and i have no clue where exactly (which template and which section) to edit the things he says to edit..

anyone has a more detailed walkthrough to accomplish this job?
