Activation E-Mail Has =0D appended to lines

I'm having a problem with some of my activation e-mail being sent out. They are getting =0D appended to the end of the lines, and because of this people are unable to click the links to be activated.
Here's a sample of an e-mail:

Did you edit any of the email templates or phrases?

I have not. I'm very much a newbie with vBulletin and I haven't gotten that far into it yet. The interesting thing is, not everyone sees it. I'm getting complaints from about 10% of my users that they get errors when they click on the links in the e-mail for validation. When I ask then to forward me there e-mail I see the extra characters on every line.

It sounds like a problem with their email clients. Ask them what they are using and see if you notice any trends.

Ok. I just created myself a testing AOL account, and I sent myself the activation e-mail. This is what I received. As you can see all the lines end with =0D and there are "3D"s appearing inside the links making them invalid. This is now reproducable. I'm going to start paying with the template to try to resolve this issue. Any assistance would be appreciated.

What email client are you using? Try opening that email with another client.

I'm using the IE interface into the AOL e-mail client. I also tried to send an e-mail message from "mail" on the linux box to the same aol e-mail address and it worked without a problem.

I'm not certain how to check an AOL account with another e-mail client. I'm not sure if there is pop access to AOL for e-mail. I'll make the attempt. But we do need to resolve this with AOL customers. We have a large number of them using AOL. I'm also getting reports that it's not restricted to Verification e-mails. It's notification e-mails as well. It's across the board. The only consistancy I've found so far is AOL members.

Here's a thought.

I've had problems in the past with Linux and Windows interfaces involving the order of the high ascii characters 10(Line Feed) and 13(Carriage Return). Linux placing these characters in the wrong order, and Windows notepad not being able to understand and placing all the text on a single line, and showing a blocked character for the one in the wrong place.

Would the order of the two be a problem with certain systems? Is there a way that we can reverse the order as a test? The problem seems to be from vBulletin. PostFix is sending mail fine if I generate a manual message. Is there a setting I can change?

How are where does vBulletin send out e-mails for notifications, authorizations, etc... Is there a central "send" function?

I'm not having this problem with Outlook, but AOL is causing alot of problems. I'm wondering if there is a char that I can change or cut to eliminate this problem. But still allow Outlook to work properly.

Ok. I've done more work on this, and it looks like there a bug in the unhtmlspecialchars function used in functions.php. When it scans the e-mail and does it work it corrupts the carriage return and other characters when sending e-mail to AOL. At least AOL is the first consistant receipient that I found.
