View Full Version : Now's the time to start seriously thinking about PDA access

With the release of the Treo600 (which I've got), times are really changing.. Accessing the web is becoming very important while on the road - without having to lug around a laptop.

I think it's safe to say that it's a good idea to start considering something VERY basic for Palm and PocketPC web browsers.. You can browse the web pretty much like you do at home with these things.. So a text-based (very lightly imaged) version of the forums would be a very, very nice option...

There is no reason you can't build a set of PDA templates. Just strip out everything that you don't want them to use, and allow your users to have a PDA-only account that uses this template and you are all set.

I setup PDA access on VB2 using archives (with a little tweaking to make it look purty). If using stuff like avantgo to sync remotely, you can also tune the pda-archive to only show say the last few days posts (unless you want to store 100,000 posts on your PDA).

Doesn't allow any replies to be made from the pocketpc though - read only access.

I did the same thing with my private forums. I renamed the directory to PDA, and away we go... :) It works great on my Treo. It is read-only, but that's okay...
