I am looking to purchase forum softare where I can run a basic RFP model (request-for-proposal) and get the impression that vBulletin should fit the bill. Can anyone please comment on wether they feel that this is a good use of the software. I would plan to charge users to post messages (ie. membership fee) which would be send as private messages if necessary. Unfortunately, I would also like to have other forums pages where a charge would not be made for posting messages yet ideally would like people to be logged in to post. Is this possible? Can anyone give any particular examples of this in action.
Additionally, I would naturally like my site to be search engine friendly. I like the way that cyclingforums.com works with static HTML pages (think this is the correct terminology) for every category, thread and post. I believe this would be a good way of setting the site forums up to achieve maximum exposure although would like to hear people's comments as to the benefits and any issues in doing this. Can someone also please explain which version of vB I would need to achieve this and indeed how much customisation, if any, etc would be necessary.
Many thanks.
