I got a decently nice surprise package in the mail today that came via Airborne Express.

Microsoft sent me Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition w/ 5 CALs. This is not a trial or demo version. This is a full version - retail box. Of course, it says for promotional - and not for resale.

Actually, I got it because I signed up to be a MS Partner last month. Which I totally forgot. And I definitely wasn't expecting to receive anything like that
coming from them. But I also beta test for MS - but I didn't beta test Server 2003 though.

But either way, I'm stuck with a $1500 piece of software that I probably wouldn't use... and can't sell it! LOL

God knows I could use the $$, if I was able to sell it LOL $-)

I was shipped Small Business Server 2003 with 10/CAL's , Windows 2003 Server Enterprise with 25/CAL's and 2003 Server Standard with 3 CAL's.

But i dont like SBS, because i dont like MS-SQL

The letter in the box said something about the partner program, so I'm guessing it wasn't because of beta testing (especially since I didn't beta test SBS - or even v2003 of anything).

I'll only give it up if someone pays me (shhhhh....hush hush). I'm dirt poor right now (no, really I am). My husband just got paid yesterday, and we only have $20 to last us until next paycheck (2 weeks away) - 99% of this check went to paying the rent.

Anyone in need of a system administrator... I work cheap... ;)

I actually had a MS person call me twice offering me the same deal, SBS and 5 CALs for free. I'm a action pack partner as well, so I get about $25k worth of MS software for free :)

LOL I just got home and had a couple of packages waiting for me.... one of them was this free copy of SBS from Microsoft :) I guess they are sending it to all their partners!

The bad thing about getting SBS is that I really have no use for it since I only have one computer here (I'll get another one in a couple months for my 3 year old (he'll be 4 by then) - who needs his own computer - just so I can get some work done).

Can anyone thing of a good use for SBS on a 1 computer setup? Granted I do need to reformat and reinstall XP lol

I received my copy today. I had received e-mails and phone calls regarding this, and I didn't reply to them, but I still got it (NFR Windows SBS 2003 w/ 5 CALs), and if you send in a success story you get another free "For Resale" copy.

I got the same thing yesterday. I haven't filled anything out on online and haven't had any phone calls from MS, but, yesterday I get the SBS package. Worked out nice for me. I was just getting ready to buy some of the software included. Only thing I can figure out is I had an MSDN Universal subscription for a few years and was part of a few betas so I'm still on some sort of list to receive the freebies.
