Hi,

I am a software professional with good experience in ASP, PERL, VC++, ATL- COM, JSP, Java, Javascript, Oracle, SQLServer and other related web and computer technologies.

I run a site called http://www.echarcha.com which offcourse runs on this beautiful vBulletin software. This has interested me a lot in PHP and MySQL. I think this is a dynamic combination for internet applications. I am hooked onto it now.

I now wish to develop another site using PHP and MySQL.

After browsing the web, I realised that there are many PHP resources, but the best way would be to have a good book handy with serious examples.

Please suggest some really good books on PHP and MySQL

(I will be doing my development on a Windows version of PHP and MySQL before I port the site to a Linux based server)

Any feedback would be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I am a few books on PHP/MySQL programming - I too am learning it on a Windows machine before putting it onto my linux box :)

For an excellent start PHP Programming then
PHP for Fast & Easy Web Development
ISBN = 0-7615-3055-X

For a thicker, more complex book there is
Professional PHP Programming
ISBN = 1-861002-96-3

For an excellent reference book try
Core PHP Programming Rev2
ISBN - Cant remember

Those are what I use and cover things like PHP4, sessions, cookies, Dynamic Content, e-commerce/bb examples etc

I second the recommendation for Professional PHP Programming :) I've used it a lot since I bought it a couple of months back.
