( I know theres a thread similair to this but it looks old and outa date)

I thought I would try to get a thread going for the folks here who may interested in going to the other persons forums sign up and post a little to get the forums active. For one I would be interested in becoming a member and posting in a forum with the following main topics:

General
Mac
PC-OC / Hardware / Modding
Parenting
NYC
Gaming

And what ever else may come up in this thread that is interesting. For me Im even interested in doing a 88/31 button exchange (email me if interested). Well what do you have to lose... Post your info like below so it's easy to read if you are interested in this project. To be clear you have to signup, post in the forums and other's will do the same.

Forum Main topic: Computer & Technology forum geared toward new and average users.
WebSite URL: http://www.techieville.com (http://www.techieville.com/)

Also feel free to join mine, we're new and looking for new members. :)

What is it? A discussion board that is aimed at all aspects of the music industry. There aren't any "general" music forums on the internet (all others seem to be too categorized), so it is taken in more of a broad sense than others.

Funny  how someone with 4 post to their name runs a similiar thread a while back, and boom---people respond, signup, etc. Today not many... I guess this was a bad idea. What was I thinking...

What was I thinking...A while back meaning 2001? Times change, bud ... besides, with a similar topic still going on, you're lucky people still respond to your duplicate topic :)

Anyway, for the sake of being on topic:

We got similar sites, though ... would be redundant but I'll sign up in yours later :)

Wow you're impatient. No just my way of getting attention :p . Got you in here though. Seriously I know what you mean, but I was just posting what came to mind when I came back here.

Tolitz I know I did not realize it was dug up again as I did a search and thats how I knew of it then I saw it :o . And right next t mine  . But anyway yeah I have been to your site many of times before you have a great Tech support site going. We have a simliar thing going but I think they are distinct in a way. <-- Is that an Oxy-moron... or am I just a moron LOL.

Thank you I seen your name on the board when I got in, and I will shoot over to yours and do the same, Im sure I will use your board for more "REAL" work related stuff. I think it would be nice.

Scott yes I know I have yet had a chance to get to your site, but will do and keep the linux topics flowing as it gets me raring to use it ALL the time.

Josh thank you, as I mentioned before I want to see ls when your done.

Wow ok. I think I got it all in. Thanks.

the thing with forums is that it's all about ambition, i get around 60 members a day on my board but i'm not happy with that, i want 600 a day on my board, you're board will never really be as active as you want it too so you get into this circle of promoting it -> being content -> wanting more -> back to promoting it.

the best thing you can do for your board is to eliminate competition by your board being better than theirs and thus their board becomes redundant, another thing is, look for potential audiences and see how you can incorperate them and their needs into your board, but remember it's about them enhancing your baord.

but to be honest, any well run board can be hugely popular and active if it gets enough exposure and no amount of waiting will get you that, you gotta work for that, whether it be though word of mouth of television adverts.

That's what I am trying to do to my teen board now. I am adding all kind of content to the site first and making the site and the boards work together. I'm not even going to try promoting it till I get just about every bit of info that teens may find helpfull.

By far the best thing you can do to advertise your board is to have a good frontsite that goes along with it. I know that over at Eyes on Final Fantasy Forums (http://www.eyesonff.com/forums/), we have a frontsite (http://www.eyesonff.com/) that is probably more extensive than any other Final Fantasy site out there. There was a time where we lacked updates and the like, and although we still got a lot of newbies since our site was by that time established, the flow increased when we revamped the site staff so that we had reporters and html-workers both doing enough site work to ensure that we had a new page going up on an average of once every 2-3 days.

However, if you don't have a frontsite, much like Fool's Gold (although they're working on it), then you can really start to lack a way to bring people to your forums. A frontsite allows people to read up on what your site is about before they decide to browse the forums. I've seen a lot of boards that don't have frontsites (heck, I've had a couple myself) and they died sooner or later. I think Fool's Gold is probably the exception (I'd link it but it's due to change domain soon since the hosting changed only recently).

Anyway, while we're onto the "New Forum Promoting and Recruiting of Members" ordeal... I have some forums that don't have a frontsite. ;) However, they're LJ Forums - forums for users of LiveJournal and other online journals based on LiveJournal's well known code (such as DeadJournal, GreaterJournal etc). To get to it - and I encourage you to - please click the first of the following links.

LJ Forums (http://www.ljforums.com) - For online journal users.
The Basement (http://www.aiyon.com/forums/) - Mature discussion on Sex, Love and Relationships - please note that this forum is R18, although we do accept 17 year olds if they prove themselves to be mature enough (the best way to do that is to post at another of these mentioned boards).

EDIT: I removed a couple of larger boards as it didn't seem fitting to put them into this thread - they don't really need new members.
