Discuss away!

May I ask why this is not a RC release? You didn't have one in the last version either (ie. v2.3.0) and then disaster struck because of it...
I asked at the time why a RC wasn't released and no one really had an answer.

2.3.0 had 3 RCs. It was 2.3.1/2.3.2 which didn't. ;)

Did you read any of the announcements stating that this is a maintenance release?
DWZ
Thu 13th Nov '03, 9:17pm
Yes, I realize that it is a maintenance release, only bug fixes - but bug fixes can cause new bugs, as can be seen from version 2.3.1

Hence Freddie saying there will be 2.3.4 if the need arises. ;)

I understand that, but Jelsoft has declared that this script is suitable for production use, but they have not really tested it (yes, I know they test it themselves, but that is limited testing)...
As can be seen from the last release, people's boards started to break because they used a script that Jelsoft said was suitable for production use when it obviously wasn't since it had not been tested.

There really is no need to dwell on the subject about why this is not a Release Candidate. This is just a minor interim release to fix a few bugs found in 2.3.2. If the need arises, like Freddie said, 2.3.4 will be released.

You're kidding, right?
CVS errors in 2.3.1 borked attachment.php and forced 2.3.2.

Yes
It would have been good to see a RC release, but so far so good.
Upgrade went smoothly.
And no issues so far.

Fri 14th Nov '03, 8:33am
Doesn't anyone get it? You won't get a RC with maintenance releases like we did in the past, remember most of the efforts are going into getting vb3 stable and ready for RC, so older versions will just be "maintained", fixing small glitches here and there as they arise and releases made when these are fixed.

Is there gonna be a 2.3.4? :p
You stole my question! :p
I see no problems as of yet but I pretty screwed myself over hacking it. :p
Glad it was only on my localhost.
I hack localhost boards when I'm bored, leave me alone. :p

Jumpin ahead a little bit arent we? ;)Ahead of what? vB3 was "very close" in November 2002 - it's now November 2003. vBulletin 2, the currently sold product, has been in maintenance only mode for over 1.5 years because of this - it's only natural for one to be keen for the currently sold product to be in development mode again. Looks like we're finally close to that, but probably still a few months off (which means 2004!).

I can wait now for vb3-Final until christmas.
Devs say before Christmas vB3 is out... ( lol )
But I canīt believe
end of months we become beta8 (named as gamma)
then first december-week rc1 , second week rc2, third week rc3 and then final and all is working perfekt lol

i feel the same way :(
You've lost my confidence and i don't think we'll get vB3 as a christmas present :(

You don't need to upgrade per se; there are no security changes/critical errors. If you haven't done hacking I'd recommend upgrading -- it should be pretty much painless.

too bad i hacked my board :(
Ah, my next update will be '2.3.2 -> 3.0' ;)
What iam wondering: will 2.3.* still be supported when 3.0 comes out? (i mean, fixing bugs and security holes)

Kier, Is that date set in stone or just a date?
You & your Devlopement team deserve a lot of beers & I will take a root beers with you, when the vbulletin 3.0.0 comes out, b/c I am not that big of a drinker.
Thank you to all the people working on the vBulletin 3.0.0 project, in beta & out of beta & the DEV team & exspecially you Kier, for your hard work here at vBulletin.
Thank you,
Dan

No as you can tell Jelsoft haven't been big on time peoples.... but I can trust them that they will try to get it out before or around Christmas

I'd actually be quite happy for them to polish a bit more and go post christmas.
I mean... my schedule is bad enough this side of new year... and I'd place a fair bet this true of a lot of others here too.
I'll be much happier going for upgrades in Jan :)
So there you are, Jelsoft can arrange their release schedule around my spare time :D

It's as set in stone as we can possibly make it right now.
I won't bet my life on it, but so far it's looking good.

Thanks.
Hey... What ever happened to John? is he just a James Limm alias name?
I see Kier is the PM. John had the title before, maybe it's Kier that has the John alias?
Anyone ever seen any of these 3? Maybe Steve Machol is all 3 of them? :D
That or.... John is James which is really Kier.
Anyhow, to whom alias fixed the few bug fixes with this ver, my gratitude. Works super.

James is the business owner / manager.
John used to be the product manager and lead developer until he left, now I'm lead dev and PM.

So there is like 95% chance that vB3 will be released in December? Perfect, I got a lot of time to work on the forums and install new hacks when vB3 goes around. Ah christmas break.

I'll lose most of my hacks for upgrading to this MINOR release, correct? It's not worth it... is it?? Because I do have lot of modifications for my forum...

I personally wouldn't if you loaded your forums down with hacks, as one of the Devs said, there are no critical updates.

Asterik
Wed 19th Nov '03, 7:38pm
might as well move 2 vB3. It'll be either now or later >_>. Also, it is way easier to script and stuff. *Conditionals Rock ;)*

Wed 19th Nov '03, 8:53pm
Later = better since you won't want to spend a lot of time editing templates in vB3b7 and then have to start over with vB3RC1.

speaking of vb3, what's with the temporary buttons? Looks stupid...

heh, I was going to install the hacks, but given that we were so close to gamma, I decided to wait till then, no sense inhaving to redoing it again a week later.
Even though I decided to do the style, its easy to do and figured might as well no one likes the default look. (no offense)
