Could admins with WebTV users on there boards try this file in clientscript/ instead of the current one.

Note it needs renamed to vbulletin_md5.js from vbulletin_md5.js.txt

It should solve the problem.

This file can get my WEBTV users back to bein gable to use my site, www.yesfans.com? Where do I put this file??? The bigger question is why did you guys not include webtv users in the 3.0 beta to be able to use it also?????????????????????????????????????

Does this issue arise when using the WebTV developer browser? While we have a significant number of webtv users on our site, the vb3 testing forum is closed to the public for licensing reasons.

WebTV produces an application which runs on Windows (and perhaps other operating systems--can't recall offhand) that allows you to view a site as if you were using the console itself.

This file can get my WEBTV users back to bein gable to use my site, www.yesfans.com? (http://www.yesfans.com?) Where do I put this file??? Steps:

Download the file in Scott's post. Rename the file to vbulletin_md5.js (You must rename the file or it won't work... please note that when you download it it will have an .txt extension which must be removed) Upload the file to your <vb3forum>/clientscript/ directory, overwriting your current vbulletin_md5.js file. You might want to make a backup of the old file before you try this. ;)The bigger question is why did you guys not include webtv users in the 3.0 beta to be able to use it also????????????????????????????????????? Jelsoft, as far as I can tell, has not conducted any sort of extensive beta testing with any "specialized groups," such as AOL, WebTV, etc. They just don't do it. Quality Assurance involves ten or so 15 year old kids in an IRC channel. Please. Where have you been?

Various beta versions have been accessible for some time now for daring licensed users to install and expose to their browsing populations with the theory that they'll encounter more issues than the developers themselves. Of course, once you stop regularly releasing updated code in favor of pretty pictures and such, this entire premise goes right down the proverbial drain pipe.

On a positive note, if they're posting this, someone must have reported a problem. Maybe it'll even fix the Opera login issue.

The opera login issue is a bug in opera that i've reported to them twice now.

For some reason it wont let you edit any variables after the onsubmit event has occured. I even sent them a test case.

Our QA regarding browsers includes.
Opera 7 and 7.2
IE 4-6
IE 5.2 on the mac
Mozilla 1.3-1.5
Firebird 0.6 and 0.7
Konqueror
Safari 65

in Regards to WebTV the developer tool from Microsoft has no problems when logging in though actual webtv users are having problems and since its not available in the UK i am unable to obtain a unit.

It is an appliance that people can purchase to view Internet pages, send e-mail, chat, etc. through their television set without buying a computer.

confirmed that the md5 login works as of 7.2.0

Opera prevented you from modifying form input after the submit event.

webtv i am still working on.

Uhh, it still crashes, on some Window comps.. running Opera 7 - 7.23. I'm running the latest version of Opera and I always have to turn Javascript off before I can login to any vB3 sites that "clears" the password after being submited.. or else it'll gimme crap about ES6S-32.dll and crash Opera.

I've added this patch (double and triple checked it was going into the correct folder and renamed correctly) but my ITV (WebTV) users still can't log in.

They can complete their details in the required fields but cannot click on the login button ... this was never a problem in VB2 so why should it be a problem in VB3 - it's pretty obvious something has changed dramatically to have such an effect. Hope you guys can sort it out soon as it's playing havoc with future planning for the New Year.

same here, I got me some angry MSNTV/WEBTV users telling me they can't click the login button :(

should this bug be submitted again in the "report bugs" forum ?
I've been searching for posts about this but nothing worked, not even the new md5 javascript file

btw, i'm running vb3 gamma

This whole WebTV issue is pretty dire ... I realise you guys have plenty on your shoulders to deal with sorting out bugs for everyone else, but at least give us an indication that this problem is being taken seriously and that we can report back to our Users that the issue is in hand and a resolution being looked into.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass ... but these Users do deserve a fair hearing.

What all my WebTV users say is they are told to "proceed" and select a month but no "month" box appears.

Latest user says this:

"Comes up PROCEED and when I hit PROCEED asked me for a month.No form or anything to register. Thanks"

Sorry to be a pain in the ass ... but these Users do deserve a fair hearing.Ok, this is at least a workaround -- it disables client-side md5 encoding in WebTV 2.2 (WebTV 2.8, which is actually MSN TV, doesn't seem to be affected by the problem). I'm not sure if any other change will be implemented.

Overwrite clientscript/vbulletin_md5.js with file in the attached zip.

This is a good start .... my members can login now and post, but (argghh the dreaded 'but') they can't use the Private Messages feature - it would be a lot simpler if these Users could get hold of a computer, but they cost and they don't have the resources :(

If you guys have a spare minute (hmmm) ..... you know what I'm going to ask, but believe me these Users are worth that extra inch - loyal and resolute are two words I'd use to describe them.

Thanks again for all your efforts, I'm sure it will all come good in the end.

I will try to play around with the WebTV viewer when I can. It's sort of painful to use. ;)

The fix you posted Mike does not work for my WebTV users. The login button still does nothing.

Jadelit the end fix for the md5 javascript was.

function md5hash(input, output)
{
if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Mozilla/") == 0 && parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4)
{
var md5string = hex_md5(str_to_ent(trim(input.value)));
output.value = md5string;
input.value = '';
}
return true;
}

i adjusted it again so it would only use recent browsers of 4th generation and greater. WebTV reports as 3rd generation (IE3 to be exact)

I had the oldest possible emulator working after alot of changes.

Scott.. In Mikes post of the md5 java script it has this code in it.

function md5hash(input, output)
{
if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("WebTV/2.2") != 0)
{
return true;
}
if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Mozilla/") == 0 && parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4)
{
return true;
}

var md5string = hex_md5(str_to_ent(trim(input.value)));
output.value = md5string;
input.value = '';

return true;
}

Wouldn't your fix and his be the same?

Ok, the user I've been talking to who has issues has WebTV Classic Phillips Magnavox 965A101 version 2.8.1. (sorry, I know next to nothing about WebTV, don't know what numbers in that are important.)
I've installed the fix at the top of the second page of this thread, and he's unable to post. He's also in contact with another member who's unable to post, but I don't know that person's versions.
Is there anything else I can do, or any suggestions I can give him? He's sticking with me, I want to give him my best effort at getting him into the forum.
Many thanks. :)

RC2 should have no problems.

I've used the oldest emulator and its definately able to post.I'm running RC2, and I just recieved this email from a valued forum member who I now discover is using webTV:
just tried posting in the foiler thread; was able to scoll up and
down and type my post but when I clicked on submit nothing happened.
I've had trouble due to webtv with certain kinds of forum software but
so far they have been able to make an adjustment somehow that permits
posting by webtv users.
...
Sure would appreciate your help..

My webtv user asked if I had any update for him today. I asked what version he is using and he said "Webtv Plus". Do I need to get a more specific version, and if so, how should I ask him to get that information specifically?
