Need help from someone who knows about nameservs and DNS zones and stuff

I'll try and be as detailed as possible. I have 8 websites that I just made and two servers I just bought.

The main website is canadaracing.ca
the other websites are montrealracing.com, ottwaracing.ca, torontoracing.net etc. I will appreviate the sites by CR MR, OR and TR

MontrealRacing has a huge vb because it was the first one I started. I bought 2 servers because one would not be able to handle the load of all the sites plus the vb.

I managed to get the server 1 up no prob. I used my own nameservers ns1.canadaracing.ca and ns2.canadaracing.ca. In the domain controls for CR I pointed the nameservers to ns1.canadaracing.ca and ns2.canadaracing.ca and I also had to add ips for each one since the site had the same name as the nameserver. Everything turned out ok and CR, OR, TR are running properly.

The problem is with MR. The website itself needs to be on server 1 but I need to forums to be on server 2.

My question is this: how do I setup the nameservers for server 2 if there is no real website that is going to be on it (only forums). I named the nameservers for server 2 ns1.ottawaracing.ca and ns2.ottawaracing.ca to give them names. I'm not sure how that might affect the ottawa site on server 1. I'm so lost when it comes to this nameserver and zone stuff. I'm using web host manager so if anyone know a bit about it I'd love some help. Thanks.

That shouldn't a problem. You only need one of the machines to be the main name server. To host a forum on a different server, gave a seperate zone for the forum subdomain, i.e. a new zone file for forum.ottawaracing.ca with the end machine IP and add a a record for it with the second machine IP in the zone file for ottawaracing.ca

Most panel will not allow that, I think. So this needs to be done by hand, i.e. direct editing of the zone files.

Thanks for the reply. I was able to get it working. The second machine didn't require nameservers only IPs (as you said) and I made an A record for forums.mydomain.com to point to that IP. The only thing was that the A record was with the domain registrar and not Cpanel. I also made an account on the server with the forums and called it forums.mydomain.com.
