Is it possible to connect component video (Y/Pb/Pr) to a computer monitor's BNC connectors? My monitor has 5 BNC connectors (V, B, R, H/HV, G/SYNC).

Considering your monitor doesn't have composite video connectors, it would be a safe guess to say that this won't work without an adapter or RF modulater.

Yes, but there are BNC (male) to RCA (female) adapters. I got the idea from reading my DVD player manual:
When the component video input jacks on the TV are of the BNC type, use an adapter to convert a pin jack to a BNC jack.
Also the names seem similar (Pb to B, Pr to Br...).

Not saying you're wrong, though, I'm just hoping you are. ;)

Might as well try it. If you have a CRT, the worst you can do is blow up the phosphor guns. Not sure what effect it would have on a plasma based screen.

Then again, you could read your monitor manual or consult the manufacturer to see if your particular model supports composite video in this manner.

Sorry, only saw the modulator part (which would degrade the image, of course).

Here's a scan from the manual; if component syncs on green then it might work because in the manual that's the only connection type that uses three pins.

Maybe... Component transmit luma and the green channel (Y) but I can't find anything about synchronization.

Thanks for the help so far...I might just get three BNC to RCA adapters; I just don't want to risk blowing out my monitor.

Component Y/Pr/Pb is not compatible with V,B,R,H/HV,G/SYNC 5-BNC.

Basically the component signals are divided as follows:
Y = BW.
Pb difference signal between Y and B (Blue)
Pr difference signal between Y and R (Red)

The 5-BNC signals:
V = Black
H/HV = Grey
B = Blue
R = Red
G/Sync = Green

To get something thats 5-BNC compatible you need a converter box that internally does:
Y+Pb = B
Y+Pr = R
Y-((Y+Pb)+(Y+Pr)) = G

This leaves you with a relatively clean RGB seperated signal, with the sync on the green.
