We just moved from a semi-dedicated environment to a dedicated server (Eeeks!) and after moving in and the VB working....(whew) we are getting email from members who aren't getting their email notification for thread replies since the move.
ANy ideas what setting this might be?
We've been on the new server for 5 days now....and the send mail function does work for the forgot password function.
Thanks for any help you can toss my way :D

whats the URL of your board so I can do a test.
Or better upload the mailtest.php file and test your mail feature via that.

Really? I need to check that out. As for the mail feature...the server is sending email for the "lost password" ...so that is working. It is the email the members get "someone has replied to thread"....
I'll email you the VB url. :D

mailtest.php is in the extras dir of the vBulletin zip.
Use that and see if you get a email.
It is highly strange if things like mail this to someone and lost password works.
Maybe your members didn't click email nofitcation for their account or their post.

I have a knowledgable member (TWTCommish's mom) who says she doesn't get email notifications, but nobody else is having the same problem.
She even logged into her profile and changed it to a new email address.
Just for grins, I turned email notification on for a few of my posts, and it has been working. I also changed my email address, and it still worked.
It's really weird.

This is still going on...but it gets weirder....
The people who aren't getting email notifications (and I've looked in their user account..they have it selected and had used it successfully on our previous server) don't get email through the system when someone from the message board emails them. We have email hidden....so that we use the email system through the message board to send messages.
So...of the members who use email notification....about half of them receive email notifications, the others don't. Those that don't get email notifications....don't get email through the system either (and on our test VB 2.0...they aren't getting PM's either)
Its like a special group of our members are blocked from being able to email them even though they have their user accounts set right.
I've been looking and see no correlation between those that get email notification and those that don't.
We've attempted to change email addresses on a few test accounts....but changing the email address doesn't make the email notification work either.
We've even had a few of those people re-register with a new email account...and a new name....and select email notification and they STILL don't get email. How weird is that? Their user accounts/profiles are set right.
PS. I'll check with these members and see if they can get password sent to them via email. I hadn't thought to check that on these members. Others can get passwords sent but maybe they aren't in this group of members who's email notification isn't working. I'll let you know. :)
ARGH :( What a deal.

My last long reply got trashed by my mistake. There's a bunch of threads with mail issues and I had the same problems as you until I hacked the vb code a bit. I also posted a new version of the mailtest.php, but I can't find the thread. Should be somewhere in the php category...
Also look @ http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=6247

Okay after a long while I thought we had this fixed. We have some tech help...and they went into out sendmail file....(usr/local/etc....or something like that) and added our IPs to the list. It seems that the headers of the email notifications that do get received are VERY generic....
like root@localdomain.localdomain.
This added IP stuff helped for a few more people...but I suspect that the sendmail/qmail needs further tweaking and I have no clue what to do. The people on my message board are really wanting this feature....add that to the idea that these people do NOT get their passwords (I thought they were) and do NOT get any email that the system sends in any way....
So, I'm having to look up passwords for these people that are forgetful.
HELP
How do I further tweak these mail settings (and where are the files) so that I can finally put this to rest??????
Remember that I'm not the brightest bulb in the box....Just the most persistent.
Thanks!
Kathy
