Anyway, great work, especially fixing over 100 bugs. I thought most of them would be gone in Beta 5. :)

I just told my cute ftp pro that it had to overwrite all files ....
Because only overwriting all files will not delete files that are no longer necessary, hence you end up with a bunch of files that are not used. He wants to prevent that. Hence, delete all and re-upload, with the note not to delete things like config.php (or you would have to re-adjust that) and any customavatars or attachments you've stored in the filesystem. :)

Yes, I ran Upgrade php. Thank god when I just moved the beta5 files
back over it all still worked!
I will give it one more try. . .
Ok, I deleted everything accept
Custom Avatars
Attachments
Includes/config.php
Then I uploaded the Beta6 Files.
Opened upgrade.php
I still get the exact same error as I stated above.
FYI, my database account has all permissions accept "shut down" and "grant"

Having lived in California all my life, this saying has never been very popular here from my experience. Maybe people think it originated from California from watching to many television shows and movies..
Now if you said something like:

I know this question may have been answered countless times, but I wanted to get a feel of when the first office RC release will be? Also, now that 3.0 is at beta 6.. where from here? What is the final beta number vB plans to reach before a RC or final release status?
Again, if this question has already been asked, my apologies.
If it has been answered, if it is not too much trouble, please reply with a link.

Scott, I would like to thank you for the quick reply, however I still feel at a loss for my question(s) are still open. Every month or so an update may take place, that is great! However, what number will be the final update number before the RC? Would it be Beta 10? 20? Is there a time frame that vB would like to have RC out for the public. I guess in short I’m looking for dates.

Beta 6 is planned to be the final beta, but depending on the changes made in the next few weeks, I may feel that it is necessary to release a further beta before we commit ourselves to a Release Candidate, and all that RC entails.
To explain; Release Candidate means "We don't think that there are any bugs in this release, and it may be ready for release as the Gold version". We put that version out to the customers who can download and test it, and if we are correct and there are no bugs, we rebadge the RC version as 3.0.0. (Final). However, if there are bugs found (nobody's perfect!) then we fix those bugs and put out RC2, which means "Okay, the previous version had bugs after all, but now we think we got them all". We put this out to the customers and if there are no bugs found (etc.)

I'm using Beta 5 (haven't had a chance to upgrade to 6 yet) on two of my boards (over 1300 topics a day (something like 10,000+ posts a day) since the beta was first available, and things are running smoothly now. So I feel confident to recommend to others with very active boards to make the jump to the beta.

It is planned to release the majority of the new style with the Release Candidate. One thing that has bothered me about the beta program to date is what little has been revealed about the style changes that are being held for the release candidate. I understand the approach that has been taken and the reasons given. However, I do not have a good comfort level on how this has been handled. While the details will have to wait for the release candidate, I am surprised that there has been no statement of the scope for the proposed style changes or a definition of the basic design parameters. This leaves me nervous for a number of reasons.
The current "working" style has significant deficiencies, most related to a much higher level of complexity. I think it is so complex that it will create real problems for a high percentage of my forum members, since many are computer novices. There has been no direction on how this issue will be dealt with beyond general assurances that it is a known problem.
The numerous "stickies" stating that the style issue is known and will be addressed at the end of the beta process has only served to cut off discussion. Surely the development team has scoped the issue by now, and at least, developed a set of objectives to be met by the style redesign. If so, this should be open to discussion. If not, my level of nervousness has just jumped.
Leaving style changes to the end could lead to one of two undesirable scenarios. First, the scope of changes could be very limited due to the constraints posed by the fixed code of the previous betas. This could mean that many of the complexity issues will not be practical to deal with. Alternatively, the style design could initiate a completely new beta phase, with no end in sight, if the previously fixed code is reopened.
I admit that I could be completely out to lunch on this, and in many ways, hope that I am. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
1: that + means that person is on your buddylist. Check your buddylist and see.
I think I read the explaination for this somewhere.
2. 5 arrows might be changed (as they called them "temporary buttons"), but I'm not sure :p. if you have better icons, just go ahead and use

Anyone tried switching on/off gzip compression? Mine was on prior to the upgrade from 2.3.2 to beta 6, after reading the note beside the option; I decided to switch it off. There was an immediate slow down of my forums, and I mean slow. As I had changed several options, thumbnails, quick reply etc. I changed things back one at a time to get my speed back. If any of you guys have it off, give it a try you may have a pleasant surprise. Mine is set at 1.
vb3 beta 6 is faster than vb2.3.2, all my mods have commented on the new forums.

I'm haveing some trouble getting the quick reply to work with the WYSIWYG editor. It sorta works for IE, you can type text but it isn't on a white background.
For Mozilla, it doesn't work at all.

Alright...I had to revert my quickreply template, and that fixed almost everything. However, when users have the full WYSIWYG interface enabled, the default color of text is black...this is a problem due to our site's dark background.
How do you change the default color of the text?

I have Beta 6. I also started a troubleshooting thread, but I just figured out what was happening. For some reason, when you click on "Ban User" it takes you to a page in the modcp directory. I have the admincp and modcp directories httaccess protected individually. I don't recall this happening in the previous betas, but I don't remember testing it.

have you upgraded/install vb3 yet?
Is everything working at least as good as vb2? Are you getting "Hey, xxxxx doesn't work anymore?"
I've never upgraded before so I wanted to only have to do that once. That's why I wanted to know when the first stabe version would be out. I've also seen some of the suggestions people have submitted and I was wondering if they plan to implement most of that before or after a stable version.

yes i am running vb3, i had some problems with beta 4 but nothing major. Beta 6 is very stable and i have had no problems with it, my only problems is my lack of knolledge about vb3 and where things have been placed in the cp but that all will come by playing around with it i guess. As for upgrading it looks like beta 6 will be the last beta by what the vb staff have said, well if no unforseen problems arise that is, so as for upgrading to the next version (RC) it will be just a matter of running an upgrade script, easy as pie :)

Cool... I assume that means that the only changes should be:
Styling templates (i.e. presentation, not data)
bug fixes as and when they are discovered.
If this is the case, then barring any serious bug creeping up, the code base should stay fundamentally where its at.
(please correct if I am wrong... as this is the type of info I am after).

Wayne: Thanks for that reply, that helps me understand a little more about when patches/updates are available how much will the code change. If the featureset is done then I hope the code is pretty much finished.
Snowy: Thanks for sharing your experience. If it is just a matter of running a script then I am not worried about upgrading.
Nail Geek: I guess we were trying to find out the same info:
I have been installing some of the hacks and I know how things break when the code changes. The good thing is that most of the hacks I installed are already standard on vb3 (archive, quick reply, quick registration).
For you super hackers out there, I have this question: I installed the store which created more tables in my database. Will this present a problem with upgrading to vb3 b6?

If there arent... would I be best installing 2.x... coverting... then upgrading to vb3?

you would need to download vb2.3.2 and import and then upgrade as you stated.

I ran upgrade4.php, and my database was hosed. I had to totally re-install from scratch. My board was brand new, and I hadn't opened to the public, so I didn't lose much.
I cannot conclude for certain that running upgrade4.php is what caused the database to fail.

To upgrade your board, upload all files from the 'upload' folder in the zip file with the exception of install/install.php, then point your browser at install/upgrade.php. You should be automatically redirected to the appropriate upgrade script, then you need simply to follow the on-screen instructions.
You are not supposed to run the upgradeXX.php files directly.

The development team could have a good handle on all of this and could surprise us with an elegant and efficient interface at the end of the day. The skill level displayed by functional improvements that are incorporated into the current beta gives cause for hope. I just wish they would let us in on what is being planned while there is still a limited opportunity to incorporate input from the members at large.

My only advice to anyone upgrading is to revert every template and the replacements prior to running the upgrade script.

Is there much of an improvement in this release on parsing styles? If you look at my forums, you'll see they're not all that complex, but vB3 makes them look horrific after an upgrade and I'm looking at at least 3 or 4 hours to get back through everything and redo all my styles, then god knows how long after that to do testing.

No, vB3 will never get out of the Beta stage. ;)
Seriously, I appreciate fully your predicament, I've been there myself. I switched to vB3 Beta a couple of months ago and it's been stable as a rock -- the only problem is that the final style has yet to be done (but perhaps we'll get it with the next release, the RC, in six weeks time (knock on wood)) -- so if you are going to modify your templates heavely I would jump on the vB3 wagon right now. If not, however, I would probably wait for the RC and go with vB2 for now.

I just noticed that the "Mark Forum as Read" behavior has changed. Prior to Beta6 (or maybe Beta5, since I didn't do that version), marking a forum as read would place you back in the forum. Now, it brings you back up a level.
I had asked specifically for this to be changed, so I was a little stunned to see it in place, with no apparent mention of it anywhere. But it got me thinking, what else that wasn't in a bug report has changed that isn't listed anywhere? Is there a list?

Hi there,
I've had vbulletin 3 beta 6 installed since the release. It has worked extremely well until I upgraded my server to PHP 4.3.3 today. Since then I have been unable to login to my admincp. I can login to the board and post, but the admincp is completely off limits now. I have no idea what happened.
Could anybody ( who is actually running vb3 and php 4.3.3 ) please confirm that vb3 will work with php 4.3.3. Or perhaps might understand what happened?

Since there might be another 1-2 months till RC1, and a nother month or so after that until VB3 Gold, I probably will be using beta for another 3-4 more months. However, I do not think he is doing any custom beta styles at the moment as he is bogged down with other projects =( I reccomend http://www.vbulletinstyles.com/index.php?go=vb3skins ( www.vbulletinstyles.com (http://www.vbulletinstyles.com) ). A little cheaper for custom work, but their styles offered are good.

I want to join the vbulletin team and than to translate all the versions to hebrewYou don't need to enter the vbulletin team to make a translation for vBulletin. You just have to use the language tools provided with the software.
And I think other people have already started a translation to Hebrew.

Could someone tell me which one of these sites (vbskinS.com or vbskinZ.com) is run by "Corey" a.k.a. the guy who rips people off. I can't remember, I like the look of what's offered on vbskinZ.com but if the site is affiliated with Corey, I will look elsewhere.

vbskins.com is owned by corey and every there is automated. no ripping off to be done there
however i belive their styles are over done, every one has them that can get them.

Thus you're trying to become a dev.team member to be able to use vBulletin Board without paying money for license? Translation to Hebrew as a payment?
Hmm...

Once a new beta version is out you can't get the old ones.
