Ok, for my sake I've made this thread, people calling vBulletin "vB" or "vB" really annoys me, and I don't know why. Someone just reply with the following:

vBulletin = vB NOT vB or vB.
There is no "board" on the end of vBulletin.

Convo is below:

Unholy Piccolo: you ever use a V B B?
Scott: vbulletin?
Scott: yes, my forum is vbulletin
Unholy Piccolo: do you ever use the hacks at V B B org?
Scott: it's vB or vbulletin not V B B, it pisses me off
Scott: and yeah
Unholy Piccolo: actually
Unholy Piccolo: it is V B B'
Unholy Piccolo: Virtual Bulletin Board
Unholy Piccolo: V B B
Unholy Piccolo: vB is the name of the site that makes a V B B
Unholy Piccolo: more or less
Scott: no it's not
Unholy Piccolo: yes it is
Scott: jelsoft make vbulletin
Unholy Piccolo: the forum is called a V B B
Scott: the forum is called vbulletin
Unholy Piccolo: board
Scott: v = nothing
Scott: no it's not
Unholy Piccolo: yes it is
Scott: i'm not even going to discuss this
Unholy Piccolo: im right
Unholy Piccolo: its a bulletin board
Unholy Piccolo: its a virtual bulletin board
Unholy Piccolo: its biggest rival is ultimate bulletin board
Unholy Piccolo: a ubb
Scott: that doesn't mean it has to be board on vbulletin
Unholy Piccolo: vBulletin is a bulletin board, people just say vBulletin because its shorter

It's vBulletin or vB, NOT v-B-B. :) And it's also not Virtual Board or Virtual Bulletin. The v has no particular meaning.

Unholy Piccolo: did he write the script?
Scott: he's on the vBulletin team
Unholy Piccolo: dont care!
Unholy Piccolo: he could be a recruit!
Unholy Piccolo: only the creators knows the answer

Ok, found some logs:

[12:14pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: hmm?

[12:14pm] <@Chen> Chen: Why don't you believe me that it's vB and not vB

[12:14pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: because

[12:14pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: its a bulletin board

[12:15pm] <@Chen> Good argument ;p[12:16pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: for as long as I have been using the internet, everyone I knew referred to it as a vB

[12:31pm] <@Chen> He doesn't have anything to say since I showed him a post from Kier that says it's not vB

[12:32pm] <+RN_Evil> ell0wz

[12:32pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: all I have is he-say

[12:32pm] <@Chen> Chen: Don't you mean hearsay?

[12:32pm] <GameWizards> lol chen

[12:33pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: I am not feeling very good at the moment, I will have typo's

[12:33pm] <@Chen> Chen: What's wrong?

[12:33pm] <@Chen> Chen: Sick?

[12:33pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: dont know fully

[12:33pm] <@Chen> Probably something in the brain[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: You are missing the point though

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: The software is not called "vbulletin board", which is why vB is invalid

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: ok then, if thats the case

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: Tell me this, why don't you call Invision Power Board IPBB?

[12:36pm] <rylin> I'm guessing you're using your isp's dns servers and have tried reaching the subdomain before?

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: do you confirm its a bulletin board?

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: Maybe it's Invision Power Bulletin Board?

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: Yeah sure

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: ok

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: so, is it vBulletin Bulletin Board?

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: No

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: It is a vBulletin-powered bulletin board

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: vbpbb!

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: Is Fusetalk a bulletin board?

[12:36pm] <@Chen> Chen: So is it Fusetalk Bulletin Board, or FBB?[12:39pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: comparing the vBulletin as you call it, to other forums proves nothing

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: Why not?

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: You are assuming a flase fact

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: You assume that the software is called vBulletin Board, when in fact it's not!

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: I am assuming, because all I have been told, is that I am wrong from people who did not create the script

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: You were told you were wrong from the product manager, if that's not enough then you're just in the stage of self denial

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: have you ever once had a discussion with the creator about this topic?

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: Yes, of course

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: You can even send him an email yourself, would you like that?

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: no, I'd rather handle it over IM, much faster

[12:39pm] <@Chen> Chen: Unfortunately he is a very busy man that cannot talk to just anyone over IM

[12:40pm] <rylin> Did he turn up in the vb forums userbase?

[12:40pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: but he can talk to you, correct?

[12:40pm] <@Chen> Chen: Yes, because I am an employee of Jelsoft

[12:40pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: so, whats stopping you from adding me to a conversation with him?

[12:40pm] <@Chen> Chen: I don't want to bother him for no reason at all, he will get mad at me[12:45pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: ok, but seeing as the odds are being stacked against me...

[12:45pm] <@Chen> Mysterious Protector: why dont you assist me in a problem..

[12:45pm] <@Chen> Chen: I'm listening

[12:45pm] <@Chen> Chen: If it's about you being sick, you need to see a doctor since I can't help you

[12:46pm] <mist> brb need to showah

[12:46pm] mist «Mist@modem-3245.alligator.dialup.pol.co.uk <mailto:«Mist@modem-3245.alligator.dialup.pol.co.uk>» has Quit iRC (That's all folks [<http://www.designdevise.com]11/>)

[12:46pm] <GameWizards> LOL

[12:47pm] <@Chen> Chen: You should see a doctor anyway, I'm afraid you won't live to see the reply and will die without an answer These are just parts where Chen is showing the current convo.

How come the guy I talked to, believe his name was Chen took bits and pieces from the conversation? He completly took most of what I said out of context. Most of my strong points were not included, but surprisingly, most of his good points were included.. Anyone can manipulate a conversation to make them look like they won or not.

The main point I was attempting to make, is that the abreviation "v-b-b" is something that fans made. Especially when the fans are expierenced in Visual Basic, then the phrase "vB" can be easilly confused. Most people who don't need to bother coming here to check things call the forum a v-b-b, to stop confusion. If I were to ask someone, "What is a V-B-B?" I can almost guarantee that their answer (without someone telling them what to say) will be Virtual Bulletin Board.

My argument with the Chen guy, was that I have never seen anything where the creator of vBulletin (not someone he hired, the person who wrote the script origionally) confirmed or denied the usage of the phrase v-b-b.

And next time you include a conversation, add all the parts, because cuting it up and not adding parts is pathetic. Oh, and I was using MSN Instant Messenger, and nor IRC, so I did not see any messages from anyone but Chen.

I am still not going to stop this voyage to answers until the creator his or herself tells me the exact answer.

Later.

Ahh, this isnt as fun as I thought it would be, there is no real debate.. I am not affraid to confront anyone about anything, and reguardless of what you think, the creators of vB or anyone else in the world is no better than anyone else.. so dont be affraid to ask questions! So, I will choose another topic!

Ok, then, if the creator NEVER gave the 'v' an actual name.. then how in the world did so many people name it Virtual? When I first got the internet, I didnt know what a forum was, and all I heard at the time is virtual bulletin board is better than ultimate bulletin board, and visa versa.. Everyone I knew (I grew up online mainly in the anime field) called it Virtual Bulletin Board, and nothing else (except maybe a v-b-b).

I am not sure who started the v-b-b thing, but somehow it became a world-wide fact that the v stands for Virtual. I have friends all over the world who continuously ask me "Help me on the Virtual Bulletin Board.. I cant do __________.."

Lets see how many people completly change the topic of this thread again..

Later.I think people just assumed that the 'v' stood for something without actually asking the developers.

A question for you, did you sign up to this board for any other reason than to try and defend yourself?

poolking, no, the reason I joined this forum was because I was in the impression that there might actually be someone who is willing to question everything, and not a huge group of people who follow the crowd. It's called a debate, which I have not found here.

Another reason I joined, was because the origional creator of the vBulletin as you say was SUPPOSED to reply to this post himself. And instead of reading all these posts from people who read a post where some other user (not the creator) says something, and everyone believes them.. I read through all the posts that one dude submitted, and I still didnt see any posts from the creator.

Perhaps I should choose a debate that someone might actually participate in. This is just an opinion-based question.. but when you (the origional creator) created the vBulletin script, then watched as about 5,000 or so "hacks" were made for it.. Doesnt that make you think that people found 5,000 or so ways to improve your script? Meaning you made about 5,000 or so not-so-good features for the script?

For this question, I am not interested what any of you members have to say.. I am sure that someone will reply, trying to insult me, or telling me to stop asking these questions.. Well, to address you ahead of time.. Shut up.

Good day.
