I made a new screen name and every time I sign on, my buddy list is stuck in a small box on the left, whereas on my old account it was a 'column' on the right.

How do I give it a fixed position? I'm on AIM 4.6 for macs and OS X 10.2.6.

Hmmm, don't these IM programs automatically "clamp" themselves to the right if you drag them far enough to the right?

Sorry, I don't know either. On my Mac I'm happier using ichat. Its happier with me too. But both my AIM and my ICHAT open up on the left hand side of my screen. I thought it belonged there. I wonder if the newer versions are coming with a particular launch spot having nothing to do with the prefs of the computer owner?

Sounds like microsoft has gotten into it

I think once you position it that's how it should stay until you move it again...

Now, my buddy list is rammed into a small box on the left (I like the right) and each AIM box is in the center of my screen and only 1 inch high. I have to manually resize EVERY IM box!

Use a decent IM program :p

Its remembering the last set size, or something like that.

Try opening ONE window, moving it into position and resizing it right, then close it and the entire program.

That might work :)

Other than that, there might be a "forget position" function like in mIRC on windows that you could issue.

Windows users:

Get DeadAIM ( http://www.jdennis.net/ ).. its the best aim addon there is. It will put every single AIM window into one (but with tabs). Its pretty cool! Loads of other features too!

EDIT: V-- heh, sorry. :)

Hmm... can't say I've had this problem before (and I'm using the latest version of AIM on X as well)

However, try deleting the file: "~/Library/Application Support/AOL Instant Messenger (SM)/Window State Information" (you know the "~" symbolizes your username right?)

If that doesn't work, move the file "~/Library/Preferences/com.aol.aim.plist" on to your desktop or some other folder (don't delete it since it contains all your preferences, and if that's not the solution then you'll want to move that file back into your preference folder)

Be sure you do both of those while AIM is not running.

Hope this helps images/smilies/smile.gif

AIM isn't in the library folder o_O

It's in my applications folder...

Whatiget is what is displayed when I sign on, and the IM box in that one is how every box is when I get a new message.

Whatiwant is just that, what I want my buddy list and IM box to look like default (when I sign on, get a new IM, etc.)

I know that AIM the application is in your Applications folder. I'm not referring to that though. Inside your Library folder (and I'm talking about the library folder that is inside your user folder) is a folder called Application Support, with a folder labeled AOL Instant Messenger inside that. That's what I'm talking about :p

Edit; an easier way to get there, is to go to the finder, press Command-Shift-G, and in the window that comes up, put "~/Library/Application Support/AOL Instant Messanger (SM)" in there (without the quotes) and it will take you to the folder with the Window State file you want to delete

Cannot be found...

Hmm. Do a search for "Window State Information" anywhere on your HD and see if anything comes up... lol

I'm sure there's a good reason, but why not just use iChat?

MasterMac

Personally, iChat is still a little "too simple" for me. AIM still has more features that I like which isn't available on iChat else I would use it more.

OT: fillburt; the http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo/reset.php page doesn't appear to be there anymore so maybe you should remove it from your sig or something?

Updated, thanks.

When I'm on my iBook I only use iChat for the simple stuff; I suppose it's just a preference, of course :)

I despise iChat:p

Folder cannot be found:(

I cannot stand the way it's doing this!

MasterMac

It's not a folder, it's a file :p

Here's what is supposed to be there...

I was looking in the wrong library:P

Deleting the windows state information worked though, much thanks!:D
