V1 Bad Bunny Emoticons
These emoticons are released with a short readme file and a screenshot. They replace the standard vBulletin "smilies", and are intended soley for use with vBulletin software. Refer to the readme for my simple requirments for use. I don't ask alot, but I do wish to know where the emoticons are being used.
Sept 7th, 2003 - Update

Squarehead V1 Bad Bunny Emoticons
This is the "squarehead" version of all the V1 emoticons. Again, a readme is included in it, and I'm not asking much in exchange for the usage of the emoticons. These are intended to replace the standard vBulletin emoticons.
(side note: I am including one emoticon only as the screenshot, as all faces are identical...these are just a different shaped head)
Enjoy!

Very nice, what exactly do you make these in? How long do they take each? Any tutorials, etc?
Thanks :)

I made them in fireworks, but they could be done easily in psp or just about any other art program. No, I don't have any tutorials...but I may be able to do one.
The thing about a tutorial is...if someone can't draw very well...it doesn't matter how clear my tutorial is. They will end up with some ugly smilies. No offense to anyone. I'll work on the square-heads first. If people really want a tut I will try to do one.
Oh, it altogether took me a couple of hours (cause I nitpick). That first squarehead smily took about 2 minutes.

Thank you, Xiphoid for the kind words.
Fury, please email me at the address listed in the zip about your blog. As for new smilies, I have no intention of doing special smilies (and animated ones I do will certainly not be released free).
I have my work cut out as it is right now to make the squarehead smilis, a tutorial, and come up with a better "eek" and "confused" face.

Do you plan to make any animated ones?
Bad Bunny
Sun 7th Sep '03, 10:07am
I have no plans outside of getting what I have already agreeed to done and taking care of my own forum's emoticons. That's not saying I won't release animals, and it doesn't hurt to let me know what yall would like. I'm just saying I am making no promises.
The truth is, animals would be really darn fun, but I have already agreed to do some things. So I'll take one task at a time. Thanks for question/suggestion though.

I'm just bumping this thread up a bit for people looking for diferent smilies than the vb3 ones.

Understandably I am searching for alternatives to the default Vb3 Gold smilies. Thanks to you own mention I just discovered this thread.... and really: your smilies look very, very good. I will implement them on my site, send you an email as you've instructed and see how they look 'in real life' ;)
One question... hopefully it's not to much to ask, but could you consider to create additional 'Post Icons' in the same sort of style? There are 7 Post Icons left in VB3 who look well.... not-so-very-good. ;)
Thanks for these great looking smilies!

Hi Bad Bunny,
Alright then! Just updated my Vb3 Gold forum with your smilies... the orange smilies work GREAT on the default VB3 style. (well.... blue and orange IS a populair combination isn't it?! It just always works!). Just put out a message on my forums (see below). Btw... what do you all think of the Additional Smilies I use? I think they look terrific also. But I like yours even better. More 'warmer' due to the orange and they have such a great design.
Thank you again!

Well, I think they are ok (your extra smilies). They look well done, but yes, te orange I added to mine do make them warmer. I was working alot on smilies for awhile, but the interest seemed to drop right out, so I just sort of stopped. I ended up doing some cute little animal smilies (in the style of my avatar), but no one really seemed interested. Go figure. :)

Hi,
Yeah, they look well done, but as I said : your's look better. In fact those graphics you produced are the best set of smilies I have seen so far.

Well... I saw your graphics-alternatives in the other thread. They are not really 'my style' and I won't even go into cute little animals ... ;) but really those Smilies are TOP! Hopefully this VB3 gold default 'graphics'-release will get your interest back in producing some graphics.
I hope you will consider to produce some 'Post Icons' in the same style. Have a look at my screenshot below and you know why I am asking.... :D
Thanks again!

Well, I'm gonna give it some thought now, which is what I do before I do any graphics. Since it was your idea, I'll ask you. Should I do the icons all in the warm yellow color scheme? Or should they be rainbow bright like the new ones?
And do you want a whole new set, or just the non emoticon ones?
Please give me your suggestions and ideas. It will help me decide what exactly I am doing.
(as it stands now I think I may go with blue toned icons, and do a whole set...but it's just my first idea. I think it would be cool to differentiate them from the smilies)

Grover is right, your first run of the emoticon set has been used from the start on vbulletin.nl and we will probably not change that unless you improve yourself. I am quite pleased, heck, very pleased!
Can't wait what you do to the icon set.

Well... now the 2 most populair (just kidding) VB-driven website's in The Netherlands will be using your smilies-pack!

(as it stands now I think I may go with blue toned icons, and do a whole set...but it's just my first idea. I think it would be cool to differentiate them from the smilies)Well... let me think. To be quite honest : i absolutely HATE the colour-sheme that is used on some of the new VB3 default 'Post Icons'.
Here they are:
VB3 default Post Icons
---------------------------------------------------------
Icons without the re-used smilies
---------------------------------------------------------
Again.... we have said it before... those images look just fine actually when you see them on their own, like i've posted them above. But... some of them do not blend in very well with the Vb3 default style.
The thing is.... the - image is not only used for a Post Icon, but is also used inside Who's Online. (when you are Admin that is : see screenshot) And there it looks pretty 'crappy'. The blue-sheme is way to 'bright' and therefore all those -images stand out waaaay to much on the Who's Online screen. They get all the focus now and I tend to not like that. Related to the Who's Online screen, I think they do much better if they are soften-down so my eyes come to rest and I can concentrate on the information on the screen instead of these bright-blue images.
So regarding your question 'Should I do the icons all in the warm yellow color scheme? Or should they be rainbow bright like the new ones?'
My answer is : you could try both, but I guess it would not be a bad idea to have the Icons get a different colour from your -great- smilies. When you go that way, please keep in mind what I've said above regarding the multiple ways some Icons are used.
'And do you want a whole new set, or just the non emoticon ones?'
No, really I like your smilies very much (I thought that was clear by now :D :D ) so just the Post Icons would be nice! In fact... it would be GREAT!

Okie dokie!
Here's my first poke at them. If I'm going in the wrong direction, please let me know sooner than later. lol And don't be easy with me. I want these to be great (I wanna use em on my own forums too, ya know! lol)
The thumbs are hard, but I am trying. My first stab is to have the hand like the thumbs up or down is being given to the viewer, rather than it being their hand. Think about it and look at the current thumbs up. It's like I'm giving mySELF a thumbsup, which is just silly. lol
Anyway, work called me in early. See if ya like it.

Hi Freddie,
I don't exactly know what you meant by your statement, but I guess you mean that if only the Admin can see it and not our userbase, no-one will actually be bothered by it, apart from the admin him/herself? Just correct me if I am wrong on this assumption.
But yeah, you could say that. Only the admin can see those -things in the Who's Online, so why bother? My point of view is this.... : as an Admin I am the MOST frequent user of Who's Online on my forums. Even if all of my userbase cannot see the things I see, I simply want to be able to use my own forums with pleasure.
When administrating my Bulletin Board I want my 'Admin'-life to be as easy as possible. My board is my work-environment. In real life I want my work-environment to be clean and calm/quiet. On 'board' ;) I want the same. I spend a lot of my time on the boards and inside the AdminCP. The VB3 board-style looks great, it really does. But I could not believe the fact that the AdminCP had the default style it had when it first was released in the beta-stages. Amazingly... the board had a great style, but we as Admin's were forced to look at WHITE TEXT ON A BLUE/LIGHTBLUE BACKGROUND during our job. Speaking about contrast (literally). The most important user on my bulletin board is ME! Without me, there is NO bulletin board. Yes... without users there also isn't any... ;) but you get the point. So why provide users with a much better graphical environment then the Admin him/herself? (speaking about contrast again... ) I did not understand that and I still don't.
A lot of people felt the same way, so THANKFULLY the 'Frontend'-Admin style was released during the RC-process. FINALLY I was able to do my job on a white background with black text........
What I want to say is just this : there's no distinction between a registered user/quest or an Admin. We are all users of the same board. So if it doens't work for me, it doens't work for my users and vice versa. The thing I don't always understand are the decisions that Jelsoft makes concerning the userinterface of VB3. We have a fantastic default (user)style, but initially the AdminCP style was very userunfriendly (due tot the coloursheme) for an Admin. Again, we have a fantastic default (user)style, but the new graphics do not match that level.
Then again, I guess no human or product is 100% perfect. A product has to be evaluated, it evolves/grows due to customer feedback etc. So I am glad to find out that Jelsoft listens to that, which resulted in the release of an alternative AdminCP style for instance. The same goes for the new graphics: I understand solutions are being provided in the future so that's good to hear.
Keep up the good work,
Grover

Regarding the 2 VB3 default icons I posted above: I am not particular fond of the VB3-thumbs-up, but I do like the manuscript-icon. (maybe some other colour will work better then white?)
Just my 2 cents,

After that I won't be doing anymore for an undecided time. I need to focus more on some graphic work I'm being paid to do.
