Hi, I was thinking about getting a owned vb licence for my website, but is it worth it? or should I get a leased licence. I can afford a owned licence but I don't know if I will do websites all my life. So If I got borred of webdesign and had no use of a vb licence could I sell it to someone or what? Please help me.

:D. Ok I should have a vb licence by next week if not then definently the week after. Thanks to my new job. BTW how would I sell my vb licence, because I don't know any one that likes webdesign in real life.

EDIT: If I brought an owned licence for £98, how much could I sell it for?

You could probally sell the owned license for at least half the value. Sales ussually go everywhere.. because its an oppertunity for people who don't have a license, because their getting it cheaper.

Not exactly sure, not to sound like a smartass, but this isnt NASDAQ.
If we all bought vB licenses just to sell them in two months for more money, don/t you think we would all be doing it?

You could possibly get upto 75% of your money back; if you find someone who really needs it and dont mind paying that much and getting a bit of a deal at the same time, but usually you would sell it for 40-60% less than the paid price if you ever decided to sell it.

But having an owned license is worth having.

having a vB doesnt really have much to do with webdesign though, not sure where youre straying off to with that. :)

I bought a leased license because I wasn't sure if a) the site would fly and b) I would be interested in continuing the site. Neither came true. However, I'll probably renew if I have some extra money so that way I can make hacks when I feel like it...

Is it worth getting a VB licence even if you don't have that many visitors?

Well if you want to use vBulletin as your forums then yes :).

Yes - Because a part of the vBulletin Licence allows you to talk on vB.com and vB.org and browse the site as you please, and modify your little board to your hearts content;)

So VB could give me tips on how to get more members to my forums?

They can, but there is no guarantee that it will work - Your site has to be appealing to people to want to visit it, and the more types of your board that exists (take yaxay for example), the less people will want to visit your board over a more popular one...

lol bit over the top! cant see where he's saying he is going to speculate on the license he asked how much in your opinion he could get back..

about 60-70 quid m8 if you dont have the members section up if you do just knock about a tenner or so off the original price.......

I got an owned one because I knew I'd be using it for quite a while.

Yes it is. And the more licenses you buy, the cheaper they get, so if you run more than one website, you get a bit of a break if many of them run vBulletin.

vB3 is worth every singel penny!

I wasnt sure in the beginning if the site would make it, so i bought a leased license, but as the site has been more popular im probably going to buy a owned license when the old runs out.

I think if it's been within a month of your purchase of the leased license, you can upgrade to owned for another $85

Get an owned license is my recommendation since if you decide to do something else half way down the line, you can change it and not worry about your license expiring.
