I might be buying this laptop, second hand!
HP Omnibook 6100
PentiumIII 933Mhz version, upgraded from 128Mb to 256Mb RAM
Original documentation & software - includes licences & software for both Windows 2000 & Windows XP
How much should i be looking to pay and also do you think it is okay as a machine which i will just use when doing work on the move etc and maybe take to school and use.
What do you think?

It should be fine to run just about anything.
I have a gateway solo 9500 - p3 850mhz 128mb ram, and it ran everything fine in windows; although now it's FreeBSD only.

if you got a laptop with a very bad display (bad contrasts, to small etc.) you'll get serious problems with your eyes...
So please spend some extra money and get a good one :)
Dunno any english website about laptop tests or something like that but you should go there first. They might give you some more information.

So you reckon this machine is okay to use? I aint going to be doing no hardcore designing on it just editing a few images etc!

$800 is a lot yep but just push it as low as possible. dealtime.co.uk and froogle.com are good ways of judging prices :)

How large is the screen? The screen size does affect the price on laptops more so than it does with desktops so I would look there.
I personally probably would not pay any more than $300-$350.

I wouldn't pay more than £300 for that, no chance.

If you're wanting to design, it will be infinitely better if you attach a seperate monitor. Laptop LCD monitors tend to distort colors based on what angle you're looking at, etc.

not if you get a good UXGA laptop monitor, and a UUXGA laptop monitor from dell is above top of the line

And he's buying an HP notebook, which would not have a UXGA monitor.

a better question is how much you are paying? Some Laptops are so cheap right now it might not be even worth buying a used one.

I was just wondering if any of you knew, if i got a laptop would the warranty be transferable? Its a HP one
Zachery
Sun 24th Aug '03, 5:56pm
normally no, if you buy it used from HP it self maybe

Most warranties from used computers aren't transferable. They warranty is only good for the original owner.
If you're wanting to design on it, I would suggest getting a laptop with at least 512mb. or setup a exclusive partition on your hard drive from virtual memory (that way it doesn't frag your hard drive up the wazoo).
For about $500 more than what you want to pay for this one, you can get brand new laptops, with 2.5ghz processors.
Just my 2 cents :)

I know that my company is selling $899.00 dollar laptops...however I think we only cater to US residents...UK is pushing it
