Will a Raq4 (512mb RAM) dedicated server handle a decent size VB forum?

I'm currently using YabbSE and my load averages get pretty high (2-3+ typical) w/ slow forum page response times.

My forum currently has about 3,000 members, 100,000 posts and 25-40 people on at once. Total forum DB size is 60mb.

Will VB be significantly more efficient? If so will it be decrease my load enough to stay on the Raq or should I look at getting a different server regardless of the forum sofware I use?

Oh, and how is VB 2.3.2 compared to VB 3 in terms of efficiency and server load?

Thanks! :)

I'm not sure who "you people" is, but I'm running one simply because that happens to be the host that I'm on currently. I have no loyalty to the Raq, other than it's a PITA to switch servers. That's why I'm asking the question; will it handle a VB forum or should I switch servers to something else?

should be able to handle 25-40 users easily.. you intending to only run vB php/mysql app any others ? ad banner etc scripts ?

only thing with raq4 is limited upgradability of hardware and software versions

actually ive never had much problems switching servers, i did a vb3 switch in about 20 min, the only reason it took so long was downloading and uploading vb3 files

Thanks for the responses folks.

My DB alone takes 20 min to download. But the forum setup isn't really the thing I dread about moving servers. It's all the little things like cgi scripts that need to be altered, the DNS propagation time, etc.

I'm also planning on running Photopost. No banner ad scripts yet, but phpadsnew would be a nice option down the road.

So given the choice between the Raq4 and say a Celeron 2.4 or P4 1.7 (all w/ 512MB RAM) which would you suggest?

eh dont go celeron ever....

go with the full power of a p4 or get an AMD the celeron has less cashe and isnt as strong as a full p4
