Nominate your favorite Board for vB Board of the Month - September

Hi all,

It's time to gather nominations for September. Let's see what kind of talent we can muster up this month.:)

Scott

Nomination guide lines

1. This month only 5 nominees will be accepted.
2. You can nominate your own board, but you must sit out a month before you can nominate it again.
3. If your board wins, it cannot be nominated again for a year.
4. If somebody else nominates your board the month after you nominated your own, the nomination will be accepted.
5.***Important!***Nominations will only be accepted for 4 days after the start of this thread. Deadline is 18:30 Hours GMT on the 19th.
6. A good board is based on whatever makes you happy.;)
7. When you make a nomination please include the Board URL and maybe a reason why you like the site.
8. A nomination must be seconded by a non-biased person before it will be accepted as a nomination. That means the second must come from somebody who is not affiliated with the board being nominated. (I know this will be difficult to inforce but please comply.)
9. You can nominate as many boards as you'd like but please second only one or two. (This is not a definite rule and therefore won't be inforced. It is more like a polite request. I added it because the question, "How many boards can I nominate or second?" always seems to come up.)
10. All seconded Nominations recieved within the 4 days will be thrown into a hat and 5 final nominees will be pulled. This selection will be 100% random!

Actually, it's all about who knows the most vB-license owners the best. If 50 people know you very well and have a license, you're likely to get 45 votes or so at least....

not really. I guess because everyone's using a purchased software it makes it a little more difficult to vote for "just another message board". But that's only one viewpoint. Many vote for their favorite communities based on the content, the users, etc. This month seems to have those type of communities in them for the nomination.

exactly. You normally only get in to style battles when the majority of the nominations are style associated. But for this month's nominations it looks like more of the general leisure and kick back and fun communities have made the poll so that's what more than likely the fans will vote for. Style is definitely an influence, but only when there's little content backing them up.

haha i meant that doesn't cost a fortune to own lol... or am I thinking of the wrong bike? Yamaha R1's can get as high as $10k, but paying anything beyond that for a bike is a bit ridiculous imo...

and I wouldn't know about Factor Yamaha because I'm not a die-hard bike fan. I don't actually watch the events (I'm not in to NASCAR) or anything... i just ride.

I hate to break it to you, but this competition isn't about style. So what if your forum took 2000+ hours to make in Photohsop?

A forum's main purpose is to create a community, where people can interact. If it takes 10 minutes for a site to load on somebody's computer, you're not building a community. Graphics are useful on a website, but you've got your priorities wrong.

A community has to be useful and functional first. Looks go later. If all you have is a site with graphics and no content, you'll get some oo's and ahh's, but that's it. If you have a site with content, you'll keep some of your visitors.

Take a look at some OTHER forums out there, besides those. You'll notice that for the most party, they're not as graphics-intensive as what you would think.
