OK, so let me understand.

To use vBulletin board I need to get MySQL and PHP activated on my server correct?

My hosting company charges $4.95 per month for PHP and $9.95 per 10mb of MySQL.

I really love the features of vBulletin board although I want make sure I know what all I am getting into.

PHP 3.09 (which is old) and MySQL 3.22 (which is also very old) are required.

I'd recommend PHP4.x and MySQL 3.23.32.

How much activity are you expecting on your board? 10MB isn't very much space...

I'd recommend PHP4.x and MySQL 3.32.32.

He meant 3.23.32 :)

Generally how much MySQL server space will this board use?

Let's assume that my board has approx. 1800 users (maybe 250 active users).

And let's assume I keep around 40,000 posts total on all my forums before I prune them.

How much (aprox.) MySql server space am I gonna need?

Thank you so much for your help.

In this day and age, i'd switch to another host. You can easily find hosts that provide PHP and mySQL for free...

I would say 40 000 posts = 30 megs.

With approx 960 users, 4900 threads, and 57000 posts, my dump (via phpMyAdmin -- I edited it to dump to the server's hd :)) was ~53,000 kb.

I'm sure my dump is larger now because that was a few weeks ago plus 2.0 makes a larger dump.

I would definately switch hosts.

When you purchase vBulletin what version do you get?

Because I want the version that is running this board.

I'm using JaguarPC (http://www.jaguarpc.com) which, heh, allows me unlimited mySQL space (within reasonable boundaries so not like 100 meg+) and the most updated mySQL and PHP. For like $10. So what you were saying it really expensive for hosts.

Currently the version is 1.1.5

2.0 is coming out within a few weeks I think.
