I don't know if this is already done or has been suggested so I think I will mention it anyway.
How about another contest as an extension of vBulletin Board of the month where winners each month are entered into a poll at the end of the year to decide the overall winner for the year.
What do you think?

I'm all for it as long as mine wins. It doesn't deserve to, but my birthday isn't that far away and it would be a nice gesture. :D

An excellent idea but I hope to thinking with my idea:
I Think if you open every six months for last fife winners it will be the best.
For example:
At June you make poll for last five winners From Jan to May.
At December you make poll for last five winners from July to November.
Then at next January you can make new poll : vBulletin Board of the Last Year.
Between the winner in June and the winner in December.
Regards!:)

It *could* work, but there will need to be some major tweaking of the rules and regulations of the contest.
Personally, I think something along the lines of splitting up the current vBBotM competition into Design and Content would improve the situation more.

It's nearly the end of the year.
Has this been given any thought.
Come January all winners of BOTM 2003 including December could be up for the title of Board of the Year 2003.

i suggest starting an unofficial one, too.
Trying to get this done via official means (Jelsoft claims not to have BotM be an official thing, even though it is officially supported by them nonetheless) will take too much time. We should just hold one unofficial poll in January 2003, with the twelve winners of 2003, and let that poll run for one month and vote on Board of 2003 via that.
Doing anything less than Board of the Year (ie. 12 contestants, the winners of that year) will ruin it entirely. The value of winning a competition will be diminished and nobody will soon care for it anymore, then. It'll become "one competition out of many".
Stick to 12x Board of the Month, and 1x Board of the Year, and no more than that. That's already 13 big competitions, more than enough to keep busy with. :)
my $.02 anyway....

yup kura's hit it on the head.
and avoid trying to judge content, BotM is about asthetics, you can't truly judge content unless you're a member and know your way around.

I'd ask Scott Molinari since it's ... unpolite not to ask - he's doing a good job with vBotM.
So, just ask him and point him to this thread.
I think it should be easy, no rules, just make a poll with all vbotm winners of this year and let the people decide.

It sounds good and all but yeah, s.molinari is doing BotM and itd probably be a good idea to get his opinion on it

Sabre, originally the Board of the Month was supposed to be completely style-independant. It was NOT about aesthetics, it was about a QUALITY BOARD, not the prettiness of the skin.
The focus was intended to be on how great the board was put together, not how pretty it was. Over time it slowly became more and more of a "I don't find this pretty, I'm voting for so-and-so instead" competition, which caused a Lot of people to leave the competition behind and forget about it entirely.
By now there's a lot of style-based voting, which I regret...
DD.net: yup, only 10 max options for us poor normal members. We should ask either Scott (from BotM) or tubedogg or Scott (from Jelsoft) to do it for us, or add the two options :)
I agree that contacting scott molinari is a good idea prior to doing anything. Fortunately we still have 25 days before the poll should start. :)
