Hello. I have 64 MB RAM. I"m planning to upgrade to at least 200 MB soon. What settings should I use in MySQL so that my board doesnt crash whn too many users are on it?

You could make the max_connections variable way lower, so then it would limit the actual number of viewers that could be on at a time, but keep in mind it would have to be really low with that amount of ram. You seem to have a really busy forum for that amount of ram, and I am not sure that it is really ever going to run fine with it like that:(
You would essentially stop the server from actually crashing that way though:)
Hopefully someone has a better suggestion for you until you upgrade.

I know. It can handle the UBB.. Because the UBB doesnt strain like MySQl does.

Are you trying to say that UBB uses less resources than vB ?
It seems a bit strange to me, I have a slower server with 64MB RAM myself, and was thinking of changing over from UBB to vB for better performance...

No, UBB will generally not use less then vB.
It does use less then MySQL though, as MySQL tends to be a MAJOR MAJOR memory hog.
64MB of RAM is NOTHING to be running a server on. 256 is generally considered minimum I believe, although you could survive with 128/194.

another possibility is to change all the mysql_pconnect commands to just mysql_connect
it will affect the performance of the proggie, but is alleged to reduce strain on the database...
and 64 Mb of RAM is not enough to run any kind of serious server....

OK, I'm not really an idiot, but maybe I'm playing one on the Web.
When you all are talking about 256 MB of RAM...are you talking about running MYSQL as root? I'm on a shared server that has 256 MB or 512 MB or something reasonable, but the maximum for any process is just 16 MB. Since I don't think I can run more than one MYSQLD process in this application, isn't this just the same as only having 16 MB of RAM? Regardless, I seem to be having decent performance until more than 25 people are active at once...although any more help in tuning gratefully appreciated...thanks in advance, etc.
