Currently my site eats up close to 300 mb of space, and I have unlimmited bandwith, which is a plus. We are adding several new services when VB 2.0 comes out and will probably start using upward to 1 GB of space... But until I need a dedicated, I am willing to stick with this host...

When I do go dedicated, I would prefer to have it hosted than do it myself... Which host provides powerfull servers for a nominal cost?

nah you don't they still have limits they just hide them in the small print, CIhost especially.. do a search from them on any popular webhosting forum....

how much GB/month do you use now, i am interested to know what they are allowing at the moment.

As a previous customer of CIHost, that is really a problem, they do not monitor the bandwidth or anything else. If you happen to be on a server with a bandwidth hog, your screwed, they will never do anything about it, your site will die first!!!! Plus they will put like 400 people on a server... I would much rather be with a tightly controlled host, for those that want a fairly good service check this out.... I'm with OLM's Webaxxs host, but I'm going to switch to this one. It's a CNet Special offer and their a good company. I'm not affiated with them although I'm thinking about becoming a reseller.

15 GB Transfer/Month (approx. 975,000 hits of traffic)

This is my former host. They were "adequate" except for when I left their service
last month and went to hostingmatters.com. All of a sudden, they explained that
I was under a 6 month contract. The details which they say were in an e-mail
in November and an August & September Newsletter. What really happened was
that they post a link in the newsletter which said, check the user agreement
and billing policies for changes, all within about 25 paragraphs.

Instead of writing in the newsletter, hey you are all under a new six month
contract vs your monthly agreement, they hid it in the details. When I did
check out their agreement it too was vague. It says 6 month agreements start
from the date of application. I just so happen to be completing my 12 month with
them. But they are saying that my 6 month obligation started with the change in
their policy, so they are charging me for two more months of service (over $163.00)
when I am no longer with them. The $163.00 includes payment for domains I
no longer have with them ($2.00 per hosted domain per month, I had 12 domains).
I paid $59.95 a month for the priviledge of reselling.

I will never recommend AITCOM.NET to anyone ever as I feel that their bottom
line is $$$$ and not the customer which leads them to do stupid things and
have bad customer service.

Well, I don't mean to point out hte obvious, but no web hosting customer's bottom line is the customer. they are all about the cash. they wouldn't do it if they weren't getting cash. Any hosting company that says they do it for the consumer is only doing what the marketing department told them to. Seriously. All you are to ANY hosting company (or pretty much any company) is a wad of cash, plain and simple. since I have grown to accept this as fact, the woes that everyone here experiences with crappy hosts don't suprise me

Their support has dramatically gotten worse every day since I've signed up with them. Unfortunately I bought a years service to save money....

They rarely respond to any electronic communication. I can get a few words through instant messengers, but other than that, they just ignore the trouble tickets & emails.

The mysql database has been going down every week or two for hours at a time. Some of my tables have been corrupted 2 or 3 times now.

They are fast. They are cheap. If you want fast customer service, however, do not use interserver.

I am no longer with OneStop.net. At the time, they did not support neither PHP nor MySQL (They now support both. MySQL as a hosting add-on for $1). They promised support within 2 weeks, and after over 2 months of waiting as well as about 60% downtime for the last few weeks, I gave up and moved to a new host (H-Realms.com (http://www.h-realms.com), a reseller of another hosting company I am not sure of. I'm currently searching for a host.

My requirements are:
Minimum of 300megs storage
Minimum of 50 gig bandwidth
Need MySQl for a VB.

So far CI-Host seems to be the best option. They have an 800 number with 24/7 support which I find very hard to beat.

By the way does it matter if the server is unix, linux, windows2000 etc.?

If go over, site is suspended, and you are alerted by email.

Linux & Apache, Webalizer statistics.

Liquid web is total crap, they will absolutely stick it to you as well. If you go over the alloted bandwidth ( in their opinion ), they will shut the site down, and hit you with a bill that is totalled for everything. I went through this and knew someone else that did as well. They said we exceeded our bandwidth when in fact, we knew we did not.

They wont let you get your site back or code, until you pay them what they arbitrarily feel is needed, even fabricated.

Stay away from these guys, if your currently having a good experience with them, its only a matter of time...

Pros:

I'd say the best part about F5hosting is the support. Friendly, knowledgeable, they work with you in real-time instead of staying in the dark all the time and then sending you a letter when they have to tell you something or notify you that you're doing something naughty.
Also had a Silver account with them, and much to my surprise, the support was just as good. At least from my experience, they don't prioritize customers who have more expensive accounts over the customers who pay less.
Fast servers, even faster vBulletins (with GZIP)
No UBB's or YaBBs to hog resources from your site! :D :D :D

Semi-cons:

The CPanel doesn't update the bandwidth meters very often, so it's kind of hard to tell how much bandwidth my site is using. That's not really their fault anyway, though
They waited just a little too long to get their third dedicated server; through the end of January and early February, there were some minor load problems that caused some slight downtime and slow site-loading. Now that the third dedicated is up now, those load problems are pretty much over, though.

They have got to be the worst hosting company I have ever worked with. Not only do they NOT ACTIVATE YOUR PAID-FOR FEATURES (e.g. you get MySQL, SSL, Miva Merchant store, but they do not create an account for you on MySQL, nor give you the SSL keys, or even install the storefront untill you explicitly, in writing, request they do so. Then, if you're lucky, they'll have it up and running in a couple days, if they can get to it! ) but take about a year and a half to answer support e-mails. Also, I know that toll-free tech support is quickly becoming a 'premium' nowadays, but their tech support is not toll-free. :(

As soon as we can solidify a new host we're moving.

DialTone has been great -- they were there for us during the whole setup process and were very attentive to our particular needs (e.g. giving us a tuned 2.4 kernel for SMP, allocating bandwidth as needed for both boxen, performing tape backups, etc.). The reason why support is N/A is that I really do everything myself -- I compile PHP/Apache, perform installs, all at the command line. So really I only need them to reboot the boxes if they freeze, install new hardware, or troubleshoot really complex and involved problems. If I require assistance, I can call them and have them help, but if it is complex and will take several hours they will charge hourly. If it is something they broke, or a problem with their installed software (e.g. sendmail, pop, etc.) they will fix free of charge. Great deal!

They wont let you get your site back or code, until you pay them what they arbitrarily feel is needed, even fabricated.

Stay away from these guys, if your currently having a good experience with them, its only a matter of time...

Reason why I am there: Insanely cheap hosting, and ideal for hosting any boards (I don't use a vB board at the moment, I can't afford one yet).
Comments: Check their plans, they're extremely cheap. The bandwidth is a little low (6 gb) for all packages, except the Platinum package, but you can pay extra if you decide to go over that. In short, it's very ideal and inexpensive for all "small board" hosts. The only issue is that the server is extremely fast, so you'll waste 6 gb in no time at all.

Here's an example board that are hosted by them by the way (and yes, I'm an admin there): http://www.zelaron.com/forums/index.php

I almost forgot to mention that they accept PayPal as well.

They don't have separate packages for increased usage, and they guarantee that you will always pay the same monthly price. Now, the only problem is that it IS virtual hosting, and like any virtual host, you will experience some slow periods and occasional downtime (My site has been down maybe 3 times in the 2 months I've been signed up). I'm very happy so far.

I had a bad experience with these guys. My site was down 3 times a week on average in my 2.5 month time with them, and the support response time wasn't terribly great. They ended up shutting off my service completely without telling me (including FTP access). I had to inquire to find out why and was told I was using up too much MySQL resources. I only had 100 site members at the time. If I wanted access again, I'd have to upgrade to a dedicated server. Needless to say I lost many files since I didn't want to pay the $175 to a host who couldn't even inform me ahead of time. I'm sure you can imagine how frustrating it was to have to tell my members I lost a bunch of content. They did have a nice control panel though.

Right, these guys are good, and have some really good packages imho

Only problems have been when they moved to a new data center, but there was 1 month overlap, so no problem. Staright after that, the server hardisk failed, and they moved everyone over onto another server. Support is second to none, with support forums, e-mail and phone

They are running FreeBSD and Plesk if you are curious!

I agree. I use addr.com for my site and forum. The MySQL database is down FREQUENTLY. I get lost connection error messages everyday and the tech support is absolutely the WORST. The speed is absolutely horrible. They also use the "ticket" system. Database server goes down alot and when it does, they are very "secretive" about it. They won't tell you they have the system down for upgrades or there is a problem in general. Meaning, you will get thousands of error messages from VBulletin and nothing to explain to your members as to why it is happening. By the time you get a choppy reply, it will be back-up. Good Luck with these losers. As soon as I can get out of there I am GONE. Which is why I'm reading this thread right now.

My advice (especially to new users) is go with these I couldnt be happier.

I was with Sentris before...and when I started up my new forum, one thing that was important to me was better tech support. I can honestly say that Liquid Web has simply exceeded all my expectations. This is the first forum I've ever hosted (www.hawaiitalks.net (http://www.hawaiitalks.net)), and their support staff has been invaluable. Their tech support is simply phenomenal, and I can't recommend them enough. They answer my questions same day and their phone service is top notch. Before, just getting someone on the phone took days if not weeks...with LW, I've had every single question answered on the first phone call. It might be a bit pricier than others, but I think it's worth it. I've heard some bad things about VPS, but honestly, the performance has been top notch so far.

I'm just freakin' happy I picked a good provider...'cuz my last choice sucked, and this new forum is very important to me. :D
