sounds like database corruption to me. Have a look for a post by eva2000, in his signature is a link to a very very good thread on sorting out database corruption.

It cetainly is not a question of server space as other members have replied, because I am not even using one-fourth of my 300MB. What could it be? What causes a db corruption? Is it something I did on my end, or the members, the moderators, server, or is it vB's program?????

perhaps you missed my post. It is database corruption. Nothing to do with the html/templates etc. Somewhere along the line a call to the database went pear shaped and not it don't work properly (apparently the "thread" table is what went wrong which is why replies work (they go to the post table).
Find a post by eva2000, look in sig for solving database corruption and use that to sort it out. It is pretty easy.
