Sorry guys but I have to express my feelings here.
Since i have found out about vbulletin I have tried real hard to help with its development, and to help others get it up and running. I have reccomended it to hundreds of people and have send more than my share of business your way.
Long before the start of 2.0 I sent e-mails to both John and James asking to be part of a beta team or at least help test some stuff on my server. I never received a reply. Since then I have sent several more e-mails to both of them, and now here we have people beta testing on their sites and I was never even given the chance. Could not even get a reply to a lousy e-mail at least to say "listen we dont need you" or whatever.
This has to be the lowest thing that anyone has ever done to me and now I wonder why I ever wasted my time trying to help and offer my services.
I don't need any apologie or even a reply to this thread. In fact feel free to close it if you wish. People have been asking where Ive been so I thought id say it all right here.
Regards,
Chris Miller

Chris, I'm sorry that you feel dissed.
The only people beta testing are developers and/or moderators. I can't speak for John or James, but nobody (as far as I know) is beta testing anything who isn't a moderator or developer. vBulletin is in a closed beta, which means that it is not available to the public to beta test, except on the various forum on which it is on.
I'm sure that if vBulletin ever goes into a public/private beta, where people with larger sites and/or volunteers are given the opportunity, your site will be on the list.
Everyone involved has been very wrapped up in getting this product finished and of superior quality, I'm sure it is real easy to lose track of emails. Heck, even I've sent emails to John and/or James and have yet to receive a reply :).
I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that I apologize that you feel the way you do, nobody ever intended to have you feel unappreciated. And I'm also sure I speak for everyone when I say that we appreciate your enthusiasm to help out.

Chris, I agree it would have been nice to get a reply to your email, but you do come across a little whiny.
The Beta, as has been said many times here, is a closed Beta for mods and developers only.
Your volunteering is nice, but the development team wants to make sure the first public beta release is as bug free as possible, thus not putting their membership at risk of corrupted data.

TechTalk,
Try not to take it personal!
I have tried to get on as a beta tester for many programs that I have never received a reply to.
Usually unless they ask you, you should not necessarly expect a response in return. They get a lot of email around here, and probably could not even answer all of the emails requesting to be beta testers for the 2.0 version!;)
So I am just trying to say that I would not take it personaly!

Chris,
Just read your post - sorry you feel that we've misled you in any way. At the moment, the only sites that are beta testing the software are owned by the developers and moderators (hence, it's a "private beta"). Apologies for not getting back to you - suffice to say that we received *a lot* of beta requests. I got back to most people, but obviously a few fell through the cracks.
All the best,
James

Chris,
From launching/maintaining my own massive project, I understand how incredibly easy it is to forget to reply to e-mails, or to plain not get them. I'm sure the snubbing wasn't intentional at all -- there just aren't enough hours in the day to get seemingly routine things like e-mail listed on the priority chart.
I just recently went back and set out over 200 e-mails to people who had sent me their thoughts about things, and I felt just horrible that I had left it that long. As Brooks says in "The Mythical Man-Month", things fall behind “one day at a time”. I distinctly recall filing things in my "Reply to these" folder in Outlook, however the end of the day would come, I'd be exhausted, and I'd go to sleep without remembering to send e-mails.
Hang in there, 2.0 should be great!
P.S.
