I've been dealing with this problem for months now and I can't prevent database errors from reoccurring. I run the repair.php and about 1-2 days later, the forums crash all over again. So I was wondering, how exactly could I downgrade to a version of mySQL that doesn't contain any bugs? I currently have MySQL 4.0.13 which my host upgraded me to. Is this something I can perform myself? I've read numerous help threads concerning this problem but it's all way over my head. I've just about lost my patients with all of this and I'd appreciate some help that will stop this annoying problem from happening again. Thanks in advance.

1. I have no clue what those two are.
2. Shared server
3. This is usually what I see "Database error in vBulletin 2.3.0:

Invalid SQL: SELECT COUNT(*) AS threads FROM thread
mysql error: Can't open file: 'thread.MYI'. (errno: 145)

mysql error number: 1016

I read through it but I'm not familiar with this kind of stuff at all. If all else fails, can I have a vB staff member fix this for me? I'm afraid I won't be able to do this myself.

yup you're running cpanel http://forums.davesmk.com/cpanel/ your control panel

only sure solution it is to contact your host and to get them to log into their whm server admin control panel and downgrade their mysql from 4.0.13 to 3.23.56

Thanks for the quick responses eva. So, does that mean my host would have to downgrade for all of their servers or just mine individually? I hope that's possible and I'll contact them immediately about this. If this somehow fails, any additional options? Thanks again.

the downgrade is on a server by server basis, if the server(s) have recurring corruption then yes downgrade, if not leave as is.. all the servers i have 4.0.13 and no probs.. just seems some do :(

My host told me they can't downgrade but they did mention something about a new watcher script they installed that will repair reported table errors. Any idea if this would repair the vB tables as well? If not, I really don't know what to do.:(

That depends on what the script is and how often it runs.

that ain't good as SOME corruptions will only be repaired by deleting the corrupted data

i suggest you backup your forum now and find a new host who can accomodate such a request
