1. Who can set calendar events? Just admins? Or is it a permission that can be set by user and/or group?
2. Can the birthday thingy be turned off? It's kinda cool, but I think I want to use my calendar for something else.
3. Is there only one calendar? Or can there be multiple calendars?
4. I'm assuming "private event" can only be seen by the user who put it up? Correct? Can that be turned off?

Controlled by usergroups

Only the poster can see it and you can't turn that off, but you could remove the link to it.

Does it store "private events" in my database?
*sigh* I don't want someone using my message board as their palm pilot and eating up database space.

Like freddie said, just delete the link to make private events, nobody will know that they can do that..

Why let them post messages and use your database as a means of community?

it's very doubtful people would do that - i mean who do you know that uses a web calendar that really has no functionality other than letting you input info? i wouln't worry about it if I were you, I doubt people will even use it too much for the most part (maybe the occasional note here or there), but how much is that like a page of text? the amount of space it would use would be so minute it wouldn''t even matter. IMO

I'm sorry that I don't have unlimited web space to host my message board. I want to be able to give my users the maximum usage of the space I am already paying for. I don't think it is unreasonable for me to want to limit features of users that affect the overall size of the database. Yes, I can delete the link in the template, but it would be easier if there were a simple on/off switch to do this.
I would rather you simply responded by saying "No, we don't have plans for implementing this" or "Yes, it is stored in your database", instead of being condescending about my concerns.

You are talking about two different things. "web space" is on the flat filesystem. All vB stuff is stored in the MySQL database, I'm assuming this is no different. If they charge you by "web space" and not by db space, who cares? All the events will be in the db. If they charge you for db space well then it might be different. But the amount of space we are talking about is very small. I mean I think 100K would more then cover any event. So say you have 300 events a month thats only 30.0M of space. Then you could purge the old events... I don't think it would be a big space consumer.

irc - We will not be adding any new features for this version at this time.
I am sorry if I offended you :)

Freddie,
You and I have talked about the calendars that I use for my site and I believe you have taken a look... For my site, it is critical to have multiple calendars.
I know that for the current release, there are no plans to add such a feature. But do you have any plans to make such a hack, or add this to a future release? I would like to get away from my flat file 'Matt's Calendar Script' (which by the way is a great script) and intergrate my entire site into VB 2.0.
I get about 10-30 different posts a month on each calendar, mostly of parties, with details and directions. They average about 100-200 words max (less than this post), so I don't think it would be hard on the database.
I do however, need the ability to have unlimited number of calendars. We plan on adding 15 more to our current 10 calendars. And will add more calendars in the future.
Thanx...

WebAddict - I have no plans to hack the calendar to do that and any features in future versions have to be approved by John.
