View Full Version : Suggestions?

I've been using phpwebhosting for about 6 months now. We have had frequent periods of downtimes where I couldn't access the control panel or my site. So I'm looking for a new server. Also my site is going to be generating more traffic soon from the areas of my site that are in development. Currently I pay 10 USD a month. And also they only give me 120 mb when I first signup and I keep getting close to it and then I clean up. I'm planning on soon having a nice little download section for custom skins and stuff for video games and things. But I can't do that without hogging space on there server.
Any suggestions on a place i could move to?
I'm looking in the 10-25 USD range.
Or should I build a server of mine own and host it on my cable internet connection?(I'm fairly familar with *nix systems)
~Thanks

Without any usage information (bandwidth, # of vBulletin users simultaneous, etc.), there's no way for us to provide suggestions.
ipowerweb.com is not bad if you are very low-end in your needs.

Considering it's a fairly new company, it's growing rather fast. Funny how people are so quick to insult other web hosts in such a subtle manner when people should be thankful for having so many options. Grow up please.

No need to apologize, you obviously have a formed opinion about the host I'm apart of and I've had nothing but great things coming from this host. Hearsay is hearsay, but don't be so quick to pass on judgement when you've never been apart of it.

I was trying not to form an opinion. I have seen two bad reviews and one online friend that tried to start an account, but got tired of waiting for activation. Personally I think there are hosts out there that give you a little more bang for the buck.
Sorry.

Sorry.
Perhaps. Funny how you say they waited too long for activation; I was going to register with hostrocket, in fact I submitted my info to sign up and got an error on the next page, tried again, same thing. Sent a ticket in letting them know. Came here, looked for hosts; found theforumhost, checked them out, everything seemed awesome and signed up, got an email 5 minutes later, was all set in 15 minutes. So obviously I know about not wanting to wait around when you want something, especially when your site is down, but some how I think there's more to the story with your friends account not getting activated.

Where did hostrocket come into play? On that subject. My friend (www.insidegamers.net (http://www.insidegamers.net)) had some nasty bandwidth problems with them.
On subject. I personally have not had any problems with theforumhost but I am hesitent to sign up due to two bad reviews and a bad rep from my friend. There is no need to continue this conversasion. I have my opinion now, and you have yours.

No, I brought them up because an error on their sign up form prevented it, and I wasn't in the mood to wait around. TFH had everything set up and an hour passed before I even received an email back from host rocket saying to try to sign up again.

I would like the URL's to these two bad reviews please... Also what is the domain claiming to have signed up with us and never got configured? One of the things we pride at TFH is lightning fast activation of accounts. The only delay we ever have is if the account is getting a dedicated IP and I am sold out. Then the delay is usally less then 48 hours while my data center provisions more IP's to me and in that case the account is still configured, just on a shared IP for a bit.
As like Steve says, I don't like to talk bad about other hosts, being one but from the words of my customers about the only good thing about hostrocket is they host vbskins.com

You set them up fast, then leave them hanging. It took a week for you to get my URL's stacked properly. My sites never operated fast or were up as much as they should have been. You moved the sites without insuring they were working correctly.
Then you delete my sites without a single warning and refuse to give me my copies of my property (which is illegal by the way!), my Databases and Data.
Please don't say a word about another host. The worst experience I ever had was with YOUR service.

To be honest, a host does not have to provide you with a backup of anything, responsible webmasters or website owners should know better than to not keep backups downloaded. If you valued your website, then you should have been repsonsible enough to create your own backups.
I can't speak for TFH's service, services, or actions, but I can assure you that it is not illegal for them to not provide you with a backup. You uploaded the data to their servers, therefore you took the risk associated with purchasing hosting. There is no 100% guarantee your backups, even if provided, will always be available or accessable at any time.
While I can understand you may be mad if they did in fact delete your website and data, I would honestly make sure anything else said is true before ranting on. I run a hosting venture and I am sure any other host will tell you the same, if is not illegal for them to not provide you with backups of your data.

I spoke with an Attorney tonight who assured me it IS illegal for them to destroy my site and not turn over the backup data and information. I have factual evidence that they destroyed my web site (deleted the control panel) and have the backups.
The MySQL databases and the data are MY intellectual property. I CAN sue in Court and I would win based off the fact I can prove he deleted my property and deined my the backup copies (which is part of the service I paid for and what he advertised, backup copies every night!). It's no different than paying for insruance and being denied a claim. I paid for the insurance as part of the service. To deny me my backups is the same as advertising a service and not providing.
He's local here to me in Orange County. I guarantee you my Attorney and I can sue him and win damages. If you speak to any Attorney with a lick of sense, they CAN and DO win in Court in these cases!

Yet you have the backups as you have already admitted and won't turn them over???
So basically you're just being JERK, right? I am glad EVERYONE I talk to will know what piece of work you are.
Try your TOS against your claims of backups in Court. If you want to prove you are a good guy, you want to prove your innocense, give me my data and my backups.
Otherwise you are proving to EVERYONE HERE that you are a liar and a thief. Why have you refused to turn the backups over to me? Why have you refused to return MY data?
The data was removed by you, not a hacker. I can prove maclicious intent. Buddy, I can and WILL win in court!!!!!!!!!

Not everyone is as impatient as you seem to be. From what I read, he never denied you your backups, but he's in the proccess of transferring other customers at the same time, give the guy a break, jesus. Pissing off someone who has the data that you want never seemed like a good idea to me.

There is a lot more here you don't know. Suffice to say I'd not be angry had be not maliciously deleted my sites. He's acting like he's innocent here. At least I am not lying or hiding behind a fake persona.
He deleted my accounts (illegally, they are still paid for) and has made no effort to restore them.
If he wanted to prove his innonce, the best way is to give me a url where I can get my data and my Databases and we can both say goodbye and good riddance.
Until he does that, there will be no peace.

1. He shouldn't have deleted my sites to begin with and he wouldn't have the need to "restore" them.
2. I wouldn't have needed to complain if he had warned me via email that he was moving the sites. I had problems with TheForumHost from day one and getting anything fixed from them took nearly an act of god to get it fixed. Heck it took them a WEEK to fix my stacked domains. A week!!! I had constant email problems and outages and the slowest web sites I have ever used. I could understand his anger if I never had a problem before, but the problems with TheForumHost.com have been constant. In fact, PROBLEMS were the only thing about their service that I could rely on.
3. Should be, but hey, if they aren't deleting your site then that won't be a problem. When I told him I was leaving the service he deleted the sites so I couldn't get my backups. I didn't expect him to act so bitter and childish as to remove the sites before I could back them up. His claim that it was a hacker is a complete LIE. No one but HIM could have hacked JUST my sites and wiped them so cleanly. I've talked to a few other administrators and they say based on what they can tell, the CPanel was deleted from his side (the sites disappared in less than a few seconds - I know as I was posting on my own forums when they poofed, so no way a hacker got in there that quick and deleted my sites). And even with the most remote possibility a hacker COULD have done it, there's no way they could have done it that cleanly that fast. Heck his claim it was a hacker tells you how POOR their security is, right?

I signed up with PDWebs yesterday not long after you deleted my sites. He tried to have you contacted but you ingored him.
If YOU are being completely honest, why won't you return my data or databases? You have made NO EFFORT. It seems to me if my site was hacked you'd have gone out of your way to fix it since having your sites hacked is bad for business, right? I mean no one wants to use a service that is vunerable to hacker attacks.
