I recently signed up for globat(http://www.globat.com), while they are very very cheap for lots of options:1000 MB Web Space, 50 GB Data Transfer, 1000 POP eMail Accts for 10 bucks a month, less if you pay in advanced, the servers are extremely SLOW. I just set it up about 3 days ago, so it might just be some problems with their servers, but I have a bad feeling with the low price they have slow servers. Anyone have any hosts that offer similiar packages or prices, but fast servers?

edit: or does anyone use globat or have exp with them they can share?

Thanks
Zarwin

I am sure plenty of people that delete spam from their mailbox daily have heard of Globat; I know they personally account for about 6 out of every 40-50 e-mails I receive.

Personally, the only way to really make profit from offering such services for that low of a price would be to overload the servers with many clients (which would cause the slowness you describe).

The offer of 50GB's of bandwidth for $10 or less should very much give it away ;). Cogent bandwidth is as low as .50 cents per GB (averaging a cost of $25 for that 50GB's of bandwidth) while Tier 1/Quality bandwidth ranges from $1.00 or more (which hits $50 or more).

It comes down to about the only way to really profit from that is to oversell the bandwidth excessively or to oversell the bandwidth and overload the servers.

There are plenty of quality hosts around, but I would personally stear clear of offers like that.

I was thinking of starting a vBulletin site with globat. After reading this, I'm having other thoughts.

The site I'm going to start will have perhaps 200 users online at once, at most. That will have to build of course. With allowing no photos, and only posting, what level of bandwidth should I be looking to purchase? I'd like my site to be nice and snappy.

Thanks, as you can see, this is my first post here.

You are pretty smart. You know there is no free lunch .. What they did is oversell . Give you the impression you can use so much space & bandwidth..but in fact, you will be warn as soon as you hit their restricted limit.

If i would you, i would go with a host that do not oversell and provide hosting at a reasonable price.

I don't wish to see my data get deleted because i violate their TOS.

NGM, is it a new vbulletin board?

If yes, go with a small hosting account first. Grow from there. $5-$10 a month will be more than enough.

That seems like a very reasonable price for a months service. Is there a particular hosting service that serves vBulletin better than others?

Would you tell me what level of service you have with them and how it works for you? I'd like mine to be nice and snappy. What should I ask for?

I'm just learning all of this.

Thanks again!
