In my admin cp (version 2.3.0), I set the "Show Locked Forums" setting to NO. However, the locked forums are still showing with a lock icon, on the forum home page. This is true for all users, including: admin, regular registered users, and guests.
What am I doing wrong?

Check the user group permissions for that forum.
Show Locked forums?
Do you wish to have the new post indicators shown on the index page (on.gif and off.gif) be shown with locks to guests & other members who have no access to post?

The registered usergroup, for example, has full posting permissions except:
they cannot move own threads to other forums they cannot open / close own threads they cannot delete own threads they cannot delete own posts(Edited to show signature.)

On your locked forums, what settings do you have for:
Is active?
(Will not appear if not)
Open for new posts?
(Will have lock if not, but still act as forum)

Hmmm...I have the same issue on my unhacked 2.3.0 forum. Perhaps I don't understand what this feature is supposed to do. I'm moving this to the Bugs forum so a Dev can take a look.

Setting this to yes means, that if someone isn't allowed to post into a certain forum (e. g. no guest postings or any other usergroup that may not post into that forum) If you have guest postings turned off, set this to yes and browse your forums as a guest. Every forum should have a lock than, since you're not allowed to post there.
See the description of the Option:Show Locked forums?
Do you wish to have the new post indicators shown on the index page (on.gif and off.gif) be shown with locks to guests & other members who have no access to post? You can still hide a forum by setting display order to 0 or by setting Is Active to No at the forums settings.

I'm not trying to hide the forums. I simply don't want the lock icon to show, for the forums. But, the lock icon shows for all users, regardless of their posting permissions.

Well, you could simply replace the image :)
Or you alter the User Group permissions of that forum instead of setting open for new posts to no.

Replacing the image means that the lock icon would not be available for when I do want it.
The problem exists regardless of the usergroup permissions. Changing the permissions does not solve it.
Some creative thinking, though.

You have to set "Is Active" to yes, "Show locked forums" to no and then alter the permissions

Unless I'm missing something none of this removes the actual lock itself. If so, then please explain how.

Sorry, I've mixed up the settings.
I've meant to set "Open for new Posts" to yes. (See Screenshot) and then alter the Forum permissions, so no one can answer. You have to alter all subforums as well, cause of the annoying feature of inheriting the permissions of the forum parent to all subforums.
You don't know, how to turn inheriting permissions off and use the usergroup defaults instead. Like its being stated there?

And what forum permission do you set that will remove the lock while actually not allowing someone to post in that forum?

Can post new threads to no
Can reply to own threads to no
Can reply to other's threads to no
The other settings are displayed in the screenshot above.

Sorry I think we're talking about differnet things. The 'lock' in question is when 'Open for new posts' is set to 'No'. You have this set to 'Yes'
Stadler

Yes. And you have to alter the user group permissions manually to permit users to start new thread or reply to them.
btw: Is this still a bug? IMO just a misunderstood feature.

I think the point is that when a forum is open and someone does NOT have permission to post, then this option would appear to allow you to remove the lock icon. In fact it doesn't do this at all as far as I can tell:
Show Locked forums?
Do you wish to have the new post indicators shown on the index page (on.gif and off.gif) be shown with locks to guests & other members who have no access to post?

WFM. Try setting this to no and then browse your forums as a guest. All forums should have locks then, if you don't have guest-postings turned on.
Shall I add a Screenshot from our forum, with that option set to yes?

Not necessary since you are proving the point:
All forums should have locks then, if you don't have guest-postings turned on.
This feature would seem to imply that the lock will not show if you set this to 'No'.

Any progress in fixing this bug? If the developers will not fix this bug (because they want to focus on vB3) please let me know. Thanks.

What does it do now? Extra setting, so locks will never be displayed? That's what I'd prefer, so the old setting will still work.

nope, when a forum is set to no posting and show lock forum to off. It wont show the locked forum as it was intended to do.

Scott, you mean it won't show the actual forum title? Or it just won't show the lock icon next to the forum title?

Thanks, Scott. Is this fix available for 2.3.0 now? If yes, how do I get it?

It will be in the next 2.3.x release as we tidy up the 2.x line.
