Hi,
I currently have a site that is hosted by yahoo. I just started this site less than 2 weeks ago. I want to be able to have forums in my site but I don't think yahoo is the web host I want to use. Can anyone tell me what is the best web host you have used and how much it is and if it is really easy to use. Or does this site have web hosting? And how much is it. I just want to start all over. What do I do?

You can check the vBulletin requirements page to see what you need.

If yahoo doesn't have 1 mysql database and use of PHP and access to the server with ftp, then I'd advice to check out other hosting companies.

vBulletin.com is hosted with venturesonline
You might want to check them out, they have good quality, for good prices. www.venturesonline.com (http://www.venturesonline.com)

no, i am not affiliated with them, and yes, I have good experience with them.

I read in an area that was talking a lot about different web sites and ventures online had more bad reviews than good. so It kinda scared me. I am currently checking out realwebhost.com and they seem very very very helpful. Thank you so much for your response. :-)

I've never seen anything that indicated VO has 'more bad reviews than good'. Quite the opposite actually. IMO they are the best host I've ever worked with.

a) that design wants me to make me puke
b) HUGE rip off, even if they use the best bandwidth providers ($5 per GB bandwidth PREPAID?!?)
c) Highly unprofessional in numerous areas. (i.e. look at the footer - "All Images and Programming Are Copyrighted" ... no, REALLY?)
d) Looking at their policies page it appears they haven't bene in hosting for long, or they don't care about spammers and hte like whatsoever (and thus have IPs on spamlists). Just look at the size of those policies. The most breviest couldn't fit half of what needs to be there in three sentences.

And woudl you mind sharing where you saw that about VO? I've had several sites with them hosted for over a year and can't think of a single bad issue. Additionally, any website hosting forum I'm aware of has a 99:1 ratio of good vs bad posts about VO.

Could be due to the nasty pow wow that occurred at Webhosttalk with the former owners having a fight there -- the thread was quite heated and quite ugly by WHT standards. When hosts see such fights the camps polarize and friends will support each other. Thus the reviews can be all good and all bad.

I wish they'd ban such displays as it really screws perceptions of hosts -- and frightens customers.

a very professional and informed statement eh!!!

Highly unprofessional in numerous areas. (I.e. look at the footer - "All Images and Programming Are Copyrighted" ... no, REALLY?)
whats wrong with that ??? its the same as the vbull copyright and numerous others in the footer..

it seems to me you are very much in favour of ventures online which is not a bad thing, but there are other hosts out there that do a marvellous job and some that are a hell of a lot cheaper for the smaller site. and as such you really ought to stick to the facts.....

Sorry, if those statements seem rash. What I'm implying by desugn is that a good hsot will slell you their services by their quality - not by their website design (which this one clearly attempts to do).

As far as the copyright. I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's a universally ackonwledged standard for copyright to be put into form:
(what is copyrighted) Copyright ©[year] [By Whom].
That website not only doesn't have a copyright like that, but comes up with that thing I quoted. I'm sorry to surprise, but any work someone makes is copyrighted... so that message is entirely pointless.

I don't believe Yahoo supports php/mysql, tripod does, but its free hosting, and pretty shoddy at that.

Quite a lot of *nix providers do sell MySQL as an option, or included in their hosting packages, as standard.

Your checklist should really include, need php, mysql and take a rough estimate on how much bandwidth you will use on your board, these are my clients and people I have dealt with primary targets they look for in a host, for a VBulletin site.

and so with that being the case the copyright in vbulletin in entirely superfluous

oh and as a side note I use www.34sp.com for a host..they have an extremely cheap option for someone just starting out its 15 quid a year php/mysql and the such like....ok the problem with it is its not that good if you have a heavy userbase but at that point you look to a host like ventues online with more of power packed package but as a starting point its very good....

also the support is excellent as well usually dealt with within minutes rather than hours.... take a look it could be what the brand new user of vbull is looking for.....

and so you can get a message board up an running with a domain name for 25 quid for a year.......(if you dont want a domain name and use www.whatever.34sp.com then its 15 quid)
