I was sitting here thinking and this idea for a feature came to me.

Ok, we have the list of who is online at the bottom of the forum. How hard would it be to add a small "chat" box down there? Now, it couldn't be "live" chat. However, users and guests could send text to the server it would keep say... 20 lines in a backlog, no more than. When a person refreshes a page or moves on to a forum they will get the latest 20 lines. In this way they could chat as they moved from forum to forum, or therad to thread. Depending on the code for the PM's it might even be an easy hack of that. Have a non-existant "global" user that the messages would be submitted to. That user can have no more then 20 messages, and each message could be limited to a 256 character max.

Any one have any ideas?

PM can only go to one user though. With this you would be able to target anyone currently signed onto the board.

The way this idea came to me was when I was visiting the forum and wondered just who the guest user was. We have a small group of people so far that even know about the forums and I was curious as to whom it was. I don't think there would be much use for it, some large forums might even like to disable it because of the volume of traffic might cause, however it was just a though.
