Freddie, you mentioned this in another thread, could you tell us more about this?

I have been planing to run a contest on one of my sites for the longest time, everytime somebody refer's somebody to the forum, they get entered into the contest once. Will i beable to use this function to run my contest? :)

Say the user on your forum has userid 457

He gives a link like http://yourforum.com/index.php?referrerid=457 (can be any link to the forum) out.

When a user follows that link and ultimately registers, user 457 will get credit for the referral. A cookie is set for one year so if that users returns at a later date and registers (and hasn't emptied his/her cookies) than 457 will still get the credit. You can figure out referral dates by the date the user registered.

Again I have yet to write any of the admin reports for referrers or decide on how I want to display information about referrers to users but I hope to before we release. I am open to opinions on this. You can turn the referrers off in this CP so that the options doesn't appear at registration and ?referrerid= links are ignored.

You should be able to run your contest from Day A. to Day B. and then run a report after the contest to see who had the most referrers in that time period.

Current members of the board could go to a place on the vbulletin where they can send e-mails to other people reffering them to the site. It would allow them to send as many as they want.

I don't know if I like giving users the ability to spam others by using the forum to do it.

The referrid should be built into the "Email to a friend feature".. This would be the only fair way to do it.
