I have members that host images on MSN and use URL of the following format:

http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RADoAoQTZZIemDZ*8vPO1dfVthAEVPXjEmaNRc3bjrpAXvkTt *z!2Azcybq6FIKJvKMss9VLzQAB!BEQl*z4BdN2MayAD68qHqR vU7A/file1.JPG?dc=4675406365480878722 (http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RADoAoQTZZIemDZ*8vPO1dfVthAEVPXjEmaNRc3bjrpAXvkTt *z2Azcybq6FIKJvKMss9VLzQABBEQl*z4BdN2MayAD68qHqRvU 7A/file1.JPG?dc=4675406365480878722)

I have deliberately made this a non viewable image, since it is not my image but the format looks the same.

I tried using Dynamic URL for Images but that still does not work.

Anyone know if this is possible to display this type of URL as an image?

How?

1. Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Thread display options -> Number of characters before wrapping - > xxx

Change 'xxx' to whatever number you want (and long enough to work with the URLs that are likely to be posted.)

2. Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Posting Code allowances (vB code / HTML / etc) -> Allow Dynamic URL for [img] tags? -> Yes

There was also some warning about using this tag. Something about malicious intent.

What is that all about? Is there any security issue with allowing Dynamic tags?

Also, I just tried that and it still does not show up. I set xxx to 350 just to be sure. All I get is a long URL that runs of the edge of the screen.

Here is the actual URL...

http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RADoAoQTZZIemDZ*8vPO1dfVthAEVPXjEmaNRc3bjrpAXvkTt *z!2Azcybq6FIKJvKMss9VLzQAB!BEQl*z4BdN2MayAD68qHqR vU0CsU7A/tongue1.JPG?dc=4675406365480878722

This does display, if I put it in the location bar of the browser but not between IMG tags.

Hmmm..what happens if you use the URL tag instead?

Well,

1) It wouldn't be an image, which is what I'm trying to do.

2) It does show up as a URL but when clicked does not work.

This is a well known imaging hosting site. Seems that Vbulletin folks would have an answer for this.

These type of images do work ok using IMG tags on another forum (UBB Open Topic). Some of my members are from those other sites. I was hoping to get an answer as to what is necessary, if any, to work with vBulletin.

Well, I get a 404 on both links, as if the image is not there at all.

Well according to the example you posted above, the pipe character is not allowed in an image URL with vBulletin. However you stated that was a fake image. Could you post a valid image url of the type you are trying to use?

Okay, I see what the problem is... The exclamation points are breaking the URL. One of the devs will have to look at this because from my understanding of the regular expression, exclamation points should be allowed.

Please use the 2nd URL. The first URL was changed but the 2nd URL is the actual URL.

nuno,

That is because you aren't doing it right. You can't simply cut from this window. Likely this rendering of the URL is leaving something out. If the admins here edit my post and extract the exact URL, IT WILL WORK.

I have verified this before I ever posted this question. The image is there.

Please let the vBulletin team handle this. I don't understand the point of your posts. The fact that you can't cut and paste from this forum means nothing.

What do you hope to accomplish by posting 404 nonsense?

The link works quite nicely, thank you, if it is put into a address field in a browser.

To save you some more fumbling about, here is a URL to a page with the same link (http://www.msdsite.com/temp/test.html)

So, you see, the image is there. But if I take that URL and use the IMG tag, it does not work.

BTW, the image content is coincidentally a tongue out. That just happens to be the image that the person was trying to post.

Now, if you want to see the problem, click the link, then click the image link, then cut the URL and try to use the IMG tag. Then you will see the problem.

The reason you can't just cut from the forum is because in the actual URL there are two * that show up in this page as spaces.

kTt*z! and here EQl*z4 In the link as it is displayed here, these * are spaces. But in the actual URL they are *.

Nuno,

The URL works. You have to take out the spaces when you copy and paste it into your browser window. ;)

Yeah, it was just good ol' vB twisting it all around, naughty girl. :D
Thanks.

Wayne, it wasn't the exclamation mark, it was the * in the URL. Not sure why * is associated with a dynamic image, its been removed now.

what is the security issue with this? I have had to enable it to allow my members to link to a popular Ford site that allows linking to their stored pictures, what kind of risk am i taking here because all the threads i have found so far dance around a direct answer

Thanks
