what statistical features are included in the system? that is, can admins determine number of users per time (or at any one time), etc, etc....

vBulletin 2.3.0 has a little bit of statistics in the admin control panel to get an idea about how many members registered on a day/month/year or something like that.

Bane has made a very nice hack called vB Stats which is free for download to licensed members and easy to install. It includes a lot more !

vBulletin version 3 (not out yet) will have some more detailed statistics in the admin control panel. But still, not public, and not all the features from vB stats are included (yet).
