IMHO you should make the search use 2 char or more... just that I can;t even search for css!

That will make the search index massively hugely insanely big (technically).

i've only been using this site for a few weeks and i've been bitten by the search limitation several times including today when i really needed to search for the word "ago" as in "is there a way to change the time/date formats to read 5 days ago, 3 hours ago, etc."
i understand that there are technical ramifications but... users don't care about technical ramifications - they just want it to work! :) not to mention that, from a user's perspective, it's a very strange message to see. most of us have used dozens of search engines across the web and haven't ever been stopped because a word was too small.
and hey, if Google can search for 3-letter words with 3,083,324,652 pages indexed... ;)

Well, hmm.. I agree that the search should include some common terms such as PHP, however, I don't think that that the limit should be lowered.
As for words like "ago" that is a common word and is not indexed anyway so you still couldn't search for it. Comparing forum software with Google is unrealistic. Most forum owners aren't the owners of a Multi-billion dollar corporation with 100's of servers sitting behind the scenes performing searches. However, even google puts limitations on searches with common words excluded and a limitation of 10 words in a query.

i agree that "ago" is a fairly common word, but when combined with a couple other search terms, it just happened to be exactly the word i needed. that's all.
in any case, i'm in no position to argue. especially since i'm in the process of launching a vb site and will probably be dealing with this very issue at some point in the future...
it's just that i was on your "sister" site (www.vbulletin.org) and did a search for "date format ago" and pretty much got exactly the search results i was looking for. and when i came over to the "official" site, i wasn't allowed to do the same search. and since i remembered this same thing happening to me a week ago (don't remember what i was searching for then), i decided that i'd give a little feedback. that's all.
with respect to Google, i know there's virtually no parallel. it was just fun to type 3,083,324,652. ;)
