    Apache vs. Compag vs. Zeus??

My site/forums are currently hosted on Apache servers. I'm thinking of moving ot a different hosting provider that is using Zeus servers. How do Zeus servers compare to Apache? Compaq?

Will there be any conflicts with my vbulletin forums if I move to a server other than Apache?

If the server you move to supports MySQL and PHP, then you'll be fine.

    If not, nope.

Zeus doesn't support PHP to my knowledge, at least not cleanly.

Well, I'm looking at three hosting providers: A+Hosting, HostRocket and MyBiz Hosting. A+Hosting uses Zeus Servers with PHP4 and mySQL.

Should I being paying particular attention to RAM, type of hard drives, processer speeds?

        YMMV.

I'm assuming you're going with dedicated servers.. otherwise you don't get a say in the matter anyways.

Nope. Virtual. I can't afford to go dedicated yet. Since I'm shopping around for host providers, I do have some say. Hosting providers carry all types of servers, with different operating systems, with differt amounts of RAM, processor speed, etc.

I'm just being careful and wanting to make sure that I don't end up going through all the BS I've been going through with my current hosting provider.

Here's the thing. You can be on a Sun Ultra Enterprise 10K but if there's 120,000 other web sites on there with you, it doesn't matter what hardware they're using.

Just look for something reputable, that's my advice.

well my indevelopment site FanBuy.com is with A+ hosting on a virtual account and php4 and mysql run fine .. although my site is mainly perl/cgi based for now.

A+ hosting will have high end shared dedicated servers as well as dedicated servers later in the year

                Eva,

How has your experience been with A+Hosting? I'm debating whether or not to go with them or HostRocket. What's pulling me towards HostRocket is the fact that their PHP is optimized with Zend engine which the servers at A+ are not. Supposedly, Zeus servers are not compaible with the Zend engine.

well first off.. if you want to run a vbulletin with considerable activity... you might want to email Peter at A+ hosting or one of the staff and ask - cause they do have a cpu/hits policy for their virtual accounts so using up too much shared resources might be a problem - the same with Hostrocket

i have my vBulletin forum hosted on a dedicated server with ultraspeedusa.com so i can't tell you my personal experiences with vB on A+ hosting...

A+ hosting have fast support and servers and although i have 2 dedicated servers elsewhere, i still continue to have 3 virtual accounts with A+ hosting and even have as a reseller, resold 2 A+ hosting accounts .

                    Zeus.

                    Zeus at A+

Not sure if it has been fixed or not but Vbulletin would not show the online users with Zeus Web Server. There were a few other problems with Zeus but they should be rectified soon I would think.

                      Zeus is now okay

I know this is an old, old thread, but having seen this I should just mention that Zeus now claim that PHP running under Zeus is approximately 24% faster than running under Apache.

You'll need to use the FastCGI libraries to get it to work, but Vbulletin most definately zips along on my Zeus box without any struggles.

We have been running zeus since early version 3 for about 2 years now. Zeus can out pace apache any day under any load. Our zeus servers run on Sun Ultra Sparcs, we have noticed a significant improvement over apache when we switched. And PHP is completely compatable with zeus and even runs better than with apache. Zeus is faster, more reliable and enables the hosting company to provide better service and more reliable service than apache ever could.

Go with Zeus host, you won't regret it.

Just wondering if this assessment is still a good one regarding Zeus servers.
