Could anyone please would be so nice and enlighten me (i am a newbie) what could have happened?

I have a VDS (shared virtual dedicated server) and got vbulletin 2.3 forums installed on it.

I have been having some problems with my host for some time now, my VDS behaves strange. I got 300 MB webspace and regularly 2-3 days delete the mysql log file because it takes a lot of space. Recently my VDS's disk quote indicator been giving false information e.g. didn't free up space when i removed log file. If I reach 300 MB then my site stops working, I can't even restart VDS etc.

Saturday overnight my forums went down for some reason. The log file was removed on friday so I had plenty of space. I received lots of this report:

Database error in vBulletin 2.3.0:

Invalid SQL: INSERT INTO post (postid, threadid, title, username, userid, dateline,at tachmentid, pagetext, allowsmilie, showsignature, ipad dress, iconid, visible) VALUES (NULL,'958','','*Crash*','27','1047226924','0',':)

I wish u luck','1','1','80.194.73.51','0','1')
mysql error: Duplicate entry '17240' for key 1

mysql error number: 1062

Then, I tried repairing the tables but couldn't as my site stopped working because I was exceeding my 300 MB limit. Of course it couldn't be as I still had ftp excess to check my site and it was well far from 300 MB.

I contacted my host by writing them e-mail @ 20:00 GMT.
This morning I found my vbulletin tables half empty. In fact they all went apart from 4 survivor.

I know that my forum needs re-installing etc but I would love to know what happened.

Has anyone got an idea? At this time I suspect my host did something or it was a fault of the server.

Thank you for your time, I realise it is quite a long thread :(

possible causes

1. you disk partition for mysql or quota on your a/c filled and if you had vB running/open you would of corrupted your data

2. your tables are corrupted preventing you seeing the full set of data...

3. they could be there and you're using FreeBSD which has bug with 'table unknown' errors

or your server fooboored the data

i'd provide this info

what os, linux, apache, mysql and php versions you're using

phpinfo.php and mysqlinfo.php urls
