Help! I'm very, very new to vBulletin (using version 1.1.4) and I can't work out how to create a user group or set up private forums. I also want to know how to set up a new administrator and add moderators to my forums. It's a long list, I know, but can someone tell me how to do these things, please?
Cheers!

Thanks for the offer, Wayne, but unfortunately you're on the other side of the Pond from me. Also I have a miniscule budget to work with. It's just me, the Online Manual and vBulletin questions.
What I need is simple, step-by-step instructions on creating user groups, private forums and setting up one other administrator and a number of moderators. I find elements of the online manual confusing, even though the actual dialogue boxes look deceptively simple. Has anyone else had similar problems and how did they solve them?

I think the manual isn't at all clear on this point. I'm still new to all this.
On my board there are a few forums..
News
Wars
War Reviews
Training Sessions
Tactics
and so on....
The only forum I want to be private only for ClaN-members is Tactics. Some of the members are also moderators. But when I change user permissions, they lose their moderator status on other forums.
And thus I lost my 'Admin' status, luckily I had already added a second admin. :-)
Is it possible to assign users to different forums? And if yes.......how?

Another Admin
Make sure the user you want to be an Admin is registered
Go to his profile, then click User Options at the bottom
Change their user group to Administrators
Moderators
Make sure the user(s) you want to make Mods are already registered.
Go to Control Panel > Forums > Moderators
Enter their names in the appropriate boxes, then do Submit
Private Forum
Go to Control Panel > Forums > Add
Enter forum name, description etc
Make sure the Private Forum radio box has Yes selected (just above the horizontal rule on the add forum page)
New Usergroup
Control Panel > User Groups/Perms > Add
Enter the name, status and permissions
If you want them to have specific permissions in one or more forums, goto Modify Forums and add the appropriate ones.
To add a user to it, go to their profile. Then click User Options at the bottom. Then change the usergroup at the top.
Hope that helps you :)

First that wasn't a specific offer to you. It is part of my signature.
Second if you look at the options under "Add Forum" or " Modify Forum" the option for "Private Forum" is clearly marked and described. Second to create a user group. It only seems logical to scroll down in the menu to User Groups and Permissions and click on Add. Now of course if English isn't your primary language then this could be confusing but judging by the "pond" comment, I am guessing one of you is from the U.K.
Hence this was my suggestion to read the manual. Another suggestion (which I do with every program I learn on or offline) is to click on every link in the control panel and see what happens. Trust me you won't break it and there is no "Delete Database" link so you are fine.

Thanks for the advice! It's all making sense now.

Ehm, I'm afraid to admit it, but I completely overlooked the 'Private Forum' thingy. Shame on me. I try to read everything, but missed it completely. All is clear now, though. No flame please.
I'm indeed 'across the pond'. I like to believe my English is 'above moderate', but who knows.
Thanks
