Not historically comprehensive, but funny nonetheless. :D

The Complete Military History of France

Gallic Wars - Lost.
In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian.

Hundred Years War - Mostly lost
France was saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman."

Italian Wars - Lost.
France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians.

Wars of Religion - No wins.
France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots

Thirty Years War -
France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.

War of Devolution - Tied.
Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.

The Dutch War - Tied
War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.

War of the Spanish Succession - Lost.
The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.

American Revolution - Vicarious Victory
In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."

French Revolution - Won,
Primarily due to the fact that the opponent was also French.

The Napoleonic Wars - Lost.
Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.

The Franco-Prussian War - Lost.
Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.

World War I - Tied and on the way to losing
France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.

World War II - Lost.
Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song.

War in Indochina - Lost.
French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu.

Algerian Rebellion - Lost.
Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.

War on Terrorism -
France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fails after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.

The Lesson to Be Learned from History-
Don't waste time wondering "Can we count on the French?"
With history as our guide, the only real question is "How long until France collapses and looks for someone else to pick up the pieces?"

So true, so true... not to spark some sort of nationality debate, but if I remember correctly the reason France didn't want to fight in WWII was becuase they were afraid to see Paris destroyed.. Valid, but still... they seem to try to stay pacifistic lately yet fail miserably over time.

May I add:

"Going to war without the French is like going deer hunting without an accordion."

Well, maybe France learned sth by wars...which the US didn't
What's the lesson? That war, regardless of the circumstances, is always wrong? Did the French do the right thing by surrendering to Hitler? Shouldn't they have fought for their country when it was attacked? Was it right for them to let someone else do the fighting while they took the moral high road against war? I'm starting to think we should never have gotten involved; we ought to have let them suffer the consequences of their refusal to fight. No one there will stand up for what they believe is right.

But then, the whole concept of right vs. wrong is so gauche. Forget I said anything.

And, who will pay for the consequences of the war? Once again Europe...
You don't really think that Europe will be hardest hit by a war... in Iraq. Hm. Interesting perspective, though.

Sorry for may being a bit rude but I hate those "US is the best...."
I'm all for debate. But if you think there's no more to the argument than "US is the best" then you haven't really investigated it.

Well, I deleted the post since it was early in the morning when writing it. So it's maybe not hat well written...
Anyway, I don't think it's funny to make jokes about countries not willing to go into a useless war...As if this would stop terror...In my opinion, after the war in Iraq, terror will start even more. I think it would be an endless discussion but a war in Iraq will destabilize the whole region. And which country comes next? Northern Korea? If the UN says yes to war with Bushs arguments, he has free cards to attack ANY country which he believes they support terrorists...
And to be sarcastic...how many people in the US actually know where Iraq is....

Whatever floats your boat.

However, naïve people such as yourself need to understand that when the US economy is bad, it affects every other country out there as well.
