ok -- I have a user with a yahoo email address.
i banned all yahoo.com addresses, and the allow user to keep banned email is set to NO --(see the pic for a shot of my options page)
this user can still post -- anyone want to take a stab at why?
Thanks!

That only bans users from registering with those e-mail addresses. You'll have to manually ban users who already have banned e-mails.

ok --
then what is the allow user to keep banned email option for ?
I can't think of a way to type this so it doesn't sound like I am being a smarts**--I'm really not trying to be.

I can't think of a way to type this so it doesn't sound like I am being a smarts**--I'm really not trying to be.According to the description:
Allow user to keep banned email
If you ban an email address and a user already uses that address, a problem will occur. Using this option, you can specify whether the user will have to enter a new email address in their profile when they next modify their email address, or whether the user can just keep the email address which you have banned. When I tested this out on my unhacked 2.3.0 forum the user with the banned email address was able to continue posting even though this option was set to 'No'. However reading this description it doesn't say that can't continue posting. It only says:
"...the user will have to enter a new email address in their profile when they next modify their email address"
If they are changing their address then they obviously wouldn't be using the banned one any longer. I honestly don't know what practical purpose this has. While not technically a 'bug' I'm moving this to the Bugs forum so a Dev can have a look at this.

This has always bugged me. You tell vBulletin that existing users can't keep banned addresses yet the only time that will be enforced is if they update their profile - they can post, send private messages, have e-mails sent to them, whatever they just can't update their profile... whoopie?

Really, is that all it does?
I've never banned email addresses like that, I always assumed when you did it, the current members got a message saying something like:
"The Administrator has banned your current email address from the system. To continue to use this forum, please chose a new email address now"
and then you just see two boxes, one to type in a new email and one to confirm it...

It works as the description states so this is not a bug. Users will only be forced to update their email address if they wish to modify their profile. If you would like this changed, you can ask for it to be modified in vB3 but for vB2 it will be staying this way.

Please change this in 3.0
-- like Steve said, it's not really usefull the way it is now!

I agree.
I fail to see how this is useful if it doesn't force the user to change their e-mail address. I have hacked in such a feature into my forums for quite some time to prevent users with unverified e-mail addresses from posting beyond a certain number of posts before they are forced to update their e-mail address.
I've accomplished this by creating a special usergroup.
Best wishes,
Paul

As I have said, post a request in the vB3 request forum. It is not going to be changed for vB2.
