Sorry to ask but phpBB or Vbulletin ????

Hi all, rather new here, for the last year and a bit I have always used phpBB forums and now I have heard, that Vbulletins board are meant to be a whole lot better.

Can I ask, are there any other users here who have used phpBB boards and transfered over to Vb.

And if so, why the change and what are the advantages of Vb over phpBB.

I always thought that theres more hacks / mods for phpBB and good portals, where does Vb stand on the use of hacks and portals...

http://www.vbulletin.org is the vBulletin hacking community. They've got literally hundreds, if not thousands of hacks.

http://www.vbulletintemplates.com also has some VERY nice template modifications.

For portals, you can find a few portal scripts over at vBulletin.org, but there's vbPortal and vbHome (Lite), just to name a few.:)

In the terms of speed which is faster phpBB or Vb for say an average sized forum board.

Well, my host is hosting a large forum site which is running off of PHPBB2. They have about 15 to 30 users online all the time, and it brings the server to its knees at least twice a week.

Coincidentally, the server's many vBulletins all ran without problems.

Anyway, re: the poll, he's a much better speaker than Bush and isn't a warmongering idiot, but I don't know that much about him ;)

Heeeheeee, there both bloody idiots, I think they should both personally get a one way ticket, visit Iraq and walk the streets there and see what happens.

Nothing like help daddy finish the job he started 10 years ago, and whats even better hes got Tony Blair with him as his pet sheep...

vB has at least 2 times the features as PHPbb, your uses will love all the options they get, and things like topic notifications and things that PHPbb just doesnt have!

PHPbb doesnt support attachments or anything like that, vB has all these options plus mods for 100's more!

Just a bit of a tangent here but why is there a poll on the top of this thread asking "Should Tony Blair be Shot?"

Next, a friend of mine at the TSOTribune.net used phpBB. It completely collapsed on him. Lost everything....

He didn't want to go through that again so be bought himself a vBulletin license.

The poll is added, so that I could see a speed comparasion. Basically, I have a similar poll on my phpBB forum and it stalls alot after about 6 or 7 posts or so, so I just wanted to compare the speeds.

Well just to let you know phpBB crashed on my friend and he lost everything. He didn't want to go through a crash again so he went to vBulletin.

I used phpBB before VB and have to say VB is sooo much better. The support is awesome, the hacks are awesome and Vb just has a better feel to it than all the other free BB software out there :D From what I have heard (atleast in the parenting community) people will choose a site set up with a VB verses phpBB or invision board ;)

I will definitely be buying a lifetime license when I renew next month :)
