Well, we finally tired of our host not providing enough resources and continually receiving mySQL connection errors. We're getting 50,000 unique each month and this has gotten old. We're moving servers.
I got the instructions for moving vB from the Members Area, but I could use some help with TAR for the rest of the site.
We have numerous CGI's running that were a pain to config. to begin with. Once we got the permissions set just right we were okay. The shopping cart was the toughest.
I would like to tar everything in our current site from /www down. I have never used TAR. Is there a simple command from SSH that will archive everything from /www and below that will preserve permissions, such as tar -zcvf *.* [filespec.tqz] or whatever? I haven't got a clue what I just typed :) We would then untar the archive on the new server.
What command line(s) should I use to TAR and unTAR???
