Hi,

I know very little about databases and php :(

I knew enough to be able to setup my first vbulletin forum without too much trouble. However, I have been asked to setup another forum for a friend but I'm stuck.

I'm using mySQL on a shared Unix webserver. The login of my mySQL server also doubles as the database name. My host (Nildram.net) mentioned something about renaming tables to make a seperate database but I'm technically very weak at this so I didn't know what he was going on about, also he said this would mean editing the php files etc.

I'm sure other people setup 2/3 vbulletin forums on the same server under the same login! What's the best way of doing this? Is my host crap?

Also, the prices seem a little steep, and I have to pay a developer option also which is £60 / quarter!

Shared MySQL

My SQL Business- 20mb
£30/quarter
My SQL Business- 50mb
£75/quarter
My SQL Business- 100mb
£150/quarter
My SQL Business- 200mb
£300/quarter

Please help!

Cheers,
Kerry

It sounds like your host is limiting you to just one database. Thus it would require extensive hacking in order to get two vBs to share the same database. I strongly advise against doing this since it will make upgrading a nightmare. However if you are insistent on this, then try asking for help over at vbulletin.org.

Thnx for the reply Steve,

do you know any good hosts that allow more than one? What sort of prices should I be paying?

Not really. You might want to ask in the vBulletin Hosting Options forum.
