View Full Version : Nominate your favorite board for vBBotM - January
s.molinari
Sun 15th Dec '02, 3:36pm
Hi all,
Well this is the start to a new year of vBBotM and the end of the first complete year of winning boards. I've enjoyed this year although some of the contests have had heated discussions. But, that is just a symbolization of how much winning this contest means to most of you which makes doing this very much worth while. I hope next year will be just as competitetive and, with the release of vB3, even more interesting.
Please start nominating. And please don't forget to second too. That makes the draw a bit more interesting.:)
Scott
Nomination guide lines
1. This month only 5 nominees will be accepted.
2. You can nominate your own board, but you must sit out a month before you can nominate it again.
3. If your board wins, it cannot be nominated again for a year.
4. If somebody else nominates your board the month after you nominated your own, the nomination will be accepted.
5.***Important!***Nominations will only be accepted for 4 days after the start of this thread. Deadline is 19:30 Hours GMT on the 19th.
6. A good board is based on whatever makes you happy.;)
7. When you make a nomination please include the Board URL and maybe a reason why you like the site.
8. A nomination must be seconded by a non-biased person before it will be accepted as a nomination. That means the second must come from somebody who is not affiliated with the board being nominated. (I know this will be difficult to inforce but please comply.)
9. You can nominate as many boards as you'd like but please second only one or two. (This is not a definite rule and therefore won't be inforced. It is more like a polite request. I added it because the question, "How many boards can I nominate or second?" always seems to come up.)
10. All seconded Nominations recieved within the 4 days will be thrown into a hat and 5 final nominees will be pulled. This selection will be 100% random!
If you have any more opinions/ ideas for other guidelines or opinions on these guidelines, please feel free to post them.

I nominate my place again: the Couch
www.kurafire.com/thecouch
I just added a Journal System (self-written) to it, upgraded some other hacks I made on it, gonna improve some vB coding to use less queries on pages (considerably less for some people), made a Quotes DB section, and I'm working on Way more features as we speak. All of it is integrated with the vBulletin forum and eventually, it'll be a complete site with tons of various features that are built on the vB forum but the forum'll be only a tiny part of it.
I've been nominated and seconded a few times in the past, only made the running 5 once and then I was up against three very good boards, kinda hoping to have a chance again :)
Oh, and I haven't nominated myself in several months but I have no idea if someone else did in the meantime, so I guess I can nominate myself, right? :)

Just finished a working battle system, with customizable characters..You have stats which are factored into the battle system. From battleing you gain experience, and with enough experience, you level up. When you level up you can stat points which you can free distribute to your own stats, which include attack, defense, magic, speed, agility. There's also an Itemshop which has been modded, item's you buy in the Itemshop are used, such as armor. You buy armor, and when you battle, it's factored in. You use potions to heal yourself.
Battling is accompanied with a challenge system, so you can issue challenges to people. If the challenge is accepted, the battle will take place, and either party can view the log of that battle, a hit-by-hit analysis of the battle.
Different classes also have different default stats. Next version of the battle system will include classes that are stronger when versing others, a magic system, different selectable attacks and defense manuevers for each class and different weapons

I think they agreed at one point not to make vb.org eligable, but it could be that that wasn't official but merely a suggestion. *shrugs*
Personally, I think vb.org is too affiliated to Jelsoft to be eligable, even though it's a very nicely hacked board.

Why? I was simply stating the facts so that you wouldn't go wonder why you weren't even in the hat.
It's not that hard y'know. The deadline is set at the start of the thread, this happens every time Scott makes the BotM thread, and I think the deadline has only changed _once_ since the start of BotM.
It's just weird to keep seeing people nominate their boards (well) after closing time. Why don't you read the first post entirely, but only for like 10-20 words? If at all...

Also the fact that vBulletintemplates.com requires you to be licensed to do certain functions, also gives another hint. ;)

You're free to nominate yourself and then not post again, there are no rules against that at all. You're just not free to nominate yourself again within one month after that, or if you've _won_ BotM of course. :) (then it's either 6 months or a year, I forgot..)
That's not cheating, it's normal, accepted behaviour. You can't demand from people to spend time on this forum just to be eligable for BotM. Not everyone has something to do here, y'know, but plenty of people own a vB license and made a great board and would like to have a shot at winning this, nonetheless. :)
