We currently have 2,658,000 posts on our boards. We are having load spike and performance issues. I have heard that pruning will make little difference and heard that it will. Does anyone have any experience with pruning their boards or any facts on this?

1. sending out mass emails
2. actual viewing attachments in posts
3. searching forums when there's lots of indexed posts

Hi Eva
we don't send out mass emails, have attachments and I have the search load limiter set to cut out at 2... The spikes go up to 60 or 70 sometimes on the front end server, sometimes on the mysql box. Is there a command to get that process list directly as opposed to mysqladmin? I don't have apache running on the database box.

I don't have apache running on the database box. you don't need apache all you need is mysql/mysqladmin to be able to run from ssh/telnet command line

Ok this is from a load spike that went to about 80. By the time I was able to capture this load was on it's way down, this was from around 25

Any ideas?
